"993" Door Sills
I just won an auction on Ebay. I've never seen those sills. The quality of image is pretty poor to say least. Has anyone seen these things "in real" Are they good quality? As I understand it is not OEM part...right?

Hey Sputnik,
Looks like the doors sills sold by Type 911 of the UK:
or:
<a href="http://www.type-911.co.uk/images/carinteriors/993stp.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.type-911.co.uk/images/carinteriors/993stp.jpg</a>
<a href="http://www.type-911.co.uk/ac_carinteriors.htm" target="_blank">http://www.type-911.co.uk/ac_carinteriors.htm</a>
The price new is 34 pounds (very reasonable for sills), shipping is about 16 pounds. I know the shipping cost, having just bought a set of their sills for my car:
Hope this helps!

Sputnik...
Got Type 911 '993'sills fitted to my Carrera 4.
Lovely quality, easy to fit, except I used more double sided tape than was supplied with sill panels.
If your ones are the same (as they look), go ahead and fit them, finishes off the sills beautifully.

Hey Skytop,
I'm also a little concerned about the long-term scratch resistance of my new sills. Another sill I considered is this Rennline model sold by Pelican Parts:
<a href="http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911L/por_911L_interi_main.htm" target="_blank">Pelican Parts--Page with SS Door Sills</a>
Being brushed, these sills look like they might be more resistant to scratches--or hide them better.
On the other hand, aren't the factory sills highly polished, though perhaps not as highly as the Type 911 sills? Or, are they brushed? Anyway, a search of the archives will reveal more than a few threads on how to best remove scratches from factory sills. So, they seem to be susceptible to scratching.
It appears to me that sticking with factory rubber sills is the easy-to-maintain route, and the best (only real?) defense against scratched SS. Personally, I've decided that the sills are attractive enough to warrant the extra effort needed to keep them looking good. I least I hope so .... we'll see how they look in a few years.

Hi Randall:
Say, many moons ago when I was restoring a Vette or a Rustang, the factory sill plates were polished. Within a month, they looked like 'original' pieces meaning they were all scratched up and scuffed up. The stock 993 sills are sensibly black.
I have searched around for some neat looking but well designed sill plates....no luck yet.
I checked out Rennlist and fell in love with the $125 'Rennline' sill plates. Yea, NOT!
Who the hell is paying 125 for Rennline sills?????
I'll stick with the black stockers until something really good comes along.
If I find something, I'll post it. Thanks!

I bought the exact same ones on eBay as well. I used it on my previous car, a 96 C2. They look great if you are into aluminium accents. I had them for about 6 months and didn't get any visible scratches. Enjoy them.

Saw Imagineauto's dark sill plates. Just one option among many.
