The transmission VIN derivative is not the same as the Certificate of Authenticity. The transmission is not original to the car.

Thanks for all the insight all, really helpful! The seller has been very non-responsive, but the car was parked outside a local auto body shop today and I was able to take a proper look. Gearbox is a typo, it's a 6-speed manual, confirmed via the gear stick itself. I have the VIN now too, but the build sheet was unavailable on VIN Analytics, is anyone able to take a look? WP0AA2995TS323452.

Condition looked to be pretty rough with a bunch of curb rash, wear to the seats, plus a crack in the rear light cluster and a bunch of body scratches. Any insight into the factors options would be most helpful.

Just at a quick glance knowing nothing .... $70k would be my offer or walk away.

If Interested... get Pre Purchase Inspection from a shop that knows Air Cooled Porsche 911s! No exception or walk away!

Make sure you have a Mechanic that knows these cars! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! You can’t just take it anywhere to get worked on!

I agree with the above. $70k with a PPI.

Replacing the rear reflector and doing a little reconditioning on the seats is not a big deal. Replacing the wheels would be more costly. How does the paint look? Always controversial with how to handle paint if it is original. Clean carfax? Any “stories?”

A less educated buyer might offer more - but this car does have at least some cosmetic issues - and who knows about the mechanical condition.

I live local and tried to put eyes on it myself, but they put it away - probably cause of the rains tonight? Don't worry, I just bought a C4S - needed an excuse for a back roads drive.

If it's out again this week I can stop by and check it out.

Tend to be in agreement with the $70k...but...matters what you want to do with it. Consider what it would cost to respray, refinish wheels and refinish the interior...maybe that's $10k? Not sure, and then getting into service history and what it needs mechanically?

Appreciate the heads up. I've worked with a local Porsche independent for a few years, they generally have air cooled 911's in their lot, I'd feel confident in their ability to take care of it. For my own knowledge, what's a mint condition version of this year & spec worth? It's really my first time exploring the air-cooled market, I don't have much basis for comparison.

A mint condition wide body can come in different flavors:
  1. Higher mileage (like the one you're eying) but with thorough maintenance (and MOD if applicable) history (you want to see a thick binder), the more money the previous owner spent the merrier (ideally including some engine-out service, top end rebuild by refutable air-cooled shops, etc). Such a car is worth around very high $70's to mid-high $80ks.
  2. Lower mileage (<=30ks on odo) with regular maintenance and good paint condition and minimal passenger compartment wear -- in short, garage queens albeit with proper upkeep. Price in the high $90k to $110k.
  3. Rare color: add 15%-20%
For the car you're checking out, heed what others said above. Don't forget to check age of the tires (they look to have plenty of thread left but could be >7yrs old). Replacement costs between $700-$1300.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

When you say “MINT” WB C4S.... Mint to me be would be <20k miles, no stories, documented 1 owner, documented maintenance history with all records, no accidents, all original car, original paint gleaming (concourse) with zero defects, original glass, excellent like new original interior, engine and underside so clean you could eat off it, no oil leaks, and ready to drive up to date maintenance with little to nothing to address with the car.

Easily $130k - $160k. Rarer colors / interior combinations bring 15%-20% more in premium and higher. Many cars of this condition change hands behind the scenes from collection to collection so sometimes hard to value publicly. Never see the light of day rarely. I know of a few of these examples personally less than 10k miles that have traded for this amount in the last year.

Your car here is $70k - $85k all day long. BUT as I said I would offer $70k if no known maintenance history... could be a Pandora’s Box!

These cars are not cheap to “resurrect.” For example... Oil change alone is $300 -$450. Full engine rebuild $30k - $40k, Top end engine rebuild only easily $15k - $20k. Transmission $10k to do it correctly... re-geared $15k. Because in a C4S the engine must come out as well when doing the Transmission. Coil Over Suspension, Alignment, and Corner Balance easily $4k. The list goes on and on.... These cars are now 24 years old and stuff goes. Porsche C4S OEM parts have risen as well over the years. Some of the parts prices are now shocking! Options are endless in Porsche RS Mods etc......

My saying is .... buy the best example. Save to buy the best... in the long run you will thank me. Also buy the seller.

Some of the cars out there have been wrecked, bastardized, electrical issues, modded to holy hell and back, neglected maintenance etc. Car will be a money pit and absolute headache.

I'm surprised guys here are saying 70. To me the car was not cared for, which says it wasn't maintained. You're not redoing the interior for 10k, let alone repainting it the proper way *and* redoing the interior. You can spend money like water just tweaking a good car, not to mention sorting out 20 years of neglect. I say keep looking. I'm sure you could find an example you could feel better about buying.

Just my thoughts.

Direct us all to a <$70k asking price .... driving & current inspected C4S Wide Body in Black like this car with 70k miles then. How do you know it wasn’t cared for? He hasn’t answered that yet and even if it wasn’t........

IMO, this C4S looks as if it wasn't cared for that well. If I were trying to sell a car, it would be in showroom condition. Also, looks like the car is on the original suspension (i.e. higher ride height), unless the owner replaced the shocks/springs with the factory ones (i.e. Monroe).

Just my observation.

I've been trying to move this along but the seller is one of the strangest I've come across. He asked for an offer by 5pm last Friday, isn't interested in offering a test drive or PPI and continues to say they're not needed as he has all maintenance records...but they're in the car and I can't see them without an offer. Not really sure what the story is but I've never had a seller do so little to move a deal along.
