Dear CRP,
Are the REIN branded motor mounts made to fit Porsche 993 (911 1995-1998) and sold by you into the aftermarket fluid filled like the original ones mounted at the factory on these vehicles?
Also are the ones you supply to Porsche dealer distribution of the same construction?

Please advise,
Andrew Hess

The plot thickens,
I have done some investigation and it seems the 993 Carrera 2 mounts are fluid-filled. The C4 mounts may not be and may explain the significant difference in dealer pricing. Also, the bottom side of the housing on the fluid-filled mounts looks significantly different in design and have dedicated numbers for left & right placement. This may have to do with internal differences when dealing with engine torque compliance pushing down on one mount and pulling up on the other during acceleration. Other part numbers for the C4 are listed for both left and right placement suggesting that they are not fluid-filled and so do not require different designs left & right to perform in their role.

Perhaps..... but, when the motor mount on my C4 cab blew out it was obvious it was fluid filled. The 993 had several prior owners and it is possible they were not original or had been swapped out, but the cab had less than 46,000 miles on it.

Hi Chuck,
Somehow I can't see mounts being replaced more than once on your car with normal so, your liquid mounts are probably original.
Could be that they were all fluid-filled at one time and now 20+ years later there was a supersession to a non-fluid-filled mount, just a hunch. All the 964 engine mounts are specified Left or Right C2, C4 & Turbo and so are likely fluid-filled. My assumption the more compliant fluid-filled mounts required separate part numbers for left and right where the forces applied are a little different and design differences were needed for function & durability. For purely rubber mounts that are less compliant and more durable one part number could have worked for both left and right. When I get feedback from the manufacturers we will see if my hunch is fact or fiction.

Corteco makes both hydraulic and elastomeric in the same body for the Porsche aftermarket... The main difference between the original C2 and C4 mount, both of which were hydraulic, is the body. The C2 version was steel and the C4 aluminum. The internal bleed holes are also different. The version you get when buying the less inexpensive aftermarket mount is anyone's guess. And asking their sales division is a complete waste of time.

I know in the Parts Catalog the numbers are different for Left and Right mounts. But, are the mounts really different? On my C2 Cabrio they are identical, can't say if they were replaced at some point in the past, but the part numbers on the mount would imply they are both the Left and Right part. See picture of mount I currently have in the car.

All the part numbers are on the mounts, there is a color code sticker that denotes what number you have, you can see the remains of the round sticker still, then they would have a L or R if relevant stamped on them

Oh, Thank you for this information and clarification, I mistakenly thought they were all of those part numbers.

Interestingly the part number on your mount pictured is a 964 part number (96437504901) see 964 catalog clip attached. Maybe it was used in early 993 or was simply substituted as it was on hand.
What year is your car?

Part numbers on it are for a 993 C2 96537504900 & 96537505000, the missing sticker was obviously blue!

Picking up this old thread as I'm in the same boat right now. I have a 97' C2 Cabrio. I'm also prioritizing on fewer rattlings if possible. The stock ones (specifically for C2 Cabs, with different left and right part numbers) are still very expensive. Wonder what the next best options are, without adding too many vibrations/rattlings. Thanks.

Two popular options:

* WEVO mounts w/ the black pillows: https://www.wevo.com/Products/Chassi...gineMounts.htm / https://www.wevo.com/Products/Chassi...-SSPillows.htm
* Rennline semi-solids with the yellow (street) inserts/pillows: https://www.rennline.com/rennline-tu...-pair-sku-m18/

I recently went from OE (which were in OK condition after 66k miles) to the Rennline yellow's: they are definitely firmer than stock, but NVH increase is minimal and the car is both more responsive and faster to shift. I have a Targa, so there's the same "rattle prone" risk as a Cab, but the car isn't rattling or creaking any more than it was before.

A lot of folks also like the WEVOs and there are many threads praising them as well. I picked the Rennline's because they review equally well and look a little nicer ;-)

I was looking for new mounts during Feb 2021 when many vendors had supply chain issues. Rennline versions were backordered for many weeks. I went with the Function First mounts which they refer to as semi-semi-solid. They take an OEM mount and inject urethane to add stiffness and longevity to the mount. Works well on my '96 Targa. Looks like they have a price increase since I bought them but worth checking out:

@silverlock Thanks. I'll look into both.

@turbofan Very interesting. What has your experience been with them? A pair of semi-semi-solid ones for only $300+ is pretty good.
