Default Time to say goodbye.....again.

As much as I love my 993 and all of the character it has, I was bitten hard by the GT3 bug and for the second time I am selling. I don't know if I will be back again in a few years or make this my swan song. If you have interest in one of the most documented and maintained 993's shoot me a message or tell your friends. All the best for now and thanks for the ride.

Robin’s red 993?? Wow that is some good karma. Very nice that you got to own it. That’s celebrity around here for sure. Good luck with the sale.

Can you post specs and a photo of the GT3?

I don't recall ever seeing a single Porsche during my 4 years in Corvallis. That GT3 is spectacular. Go Beavs and GLWS!

Tom - good luck with your sale! I checked out you 993 and it's beautiful. I am in the exact opposite positon as you in that I am looking at selling my 997.2 GT3 RS and getting back into a second 993. I don't mean to pee on your enthusiasm or anything, and this Porsche owhership is a journey that has no real guidelines other that I do believe everyone should own a GT iteration at some point in their life etc.. I mean that. However, I'm six months into it and for the driving I like to the do (non-track twisties and hill climbs) it's the wrong car. I NEVER would have thought I'd be saying that. It is a stunningly beautiful, fast, GT car that is crazy to drive, but only at 100 MPH and above.

I got bitten BADLY by the GT3 bug some years back when a Rennlister lent me his 7.2 RS for a couple of days. What a nutty car! I couldn't shake it until I finally made the jump on a good low mileage. But I've concluded, kicking and scratching all the way, that it's simply not much fun driven slow and needs to be close to a track. I hopped in a local 993 for sale the other day and it was just so much fun to be "driving a slow car fast". I actually got into 3rd and 4th gear, and yet not grossly violating the speed limit on a public road.

Anyways, I will never forget the GT3 experience, and who knows, maybe we'll come to some sort of workable realtionship the RS and I (like walking it on a short leash) but I'm seriously thinking of dialing it down a notch. I'm not interested in posing at Coffee n' Cars, I'm a guy that loves to drive.

Here's a short thread to read if you like: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...a-993-a-2.html

I would suggest to try and spend some serious time in one, like have one for a full week, and drive it in all conditions, and especially for more than an hour or two.

PM me if you like - I have stories!

Thanks for the response and your ownership experience. It's a bit too late for me to back out. I purchased the car in February and have not looked back. I don't know what a 997 GT3 RS drives like but I have heard they are extreme. I don't feel at all that way in the 991.2 GT3. Yes, it certainly isn't as subdued as a standard 911, but driven rationally in town is not a lot different. On the flip side the car can be an absolute beast. I have never driven any car that gives me the complete experience of this one. Period. I don't for a minute miss the manual transmission. If I really feel the need, I can get in the 914. There is no doubt you could loose your licence in the GT3, but you could do that just as easily in the 993. Maybe age has caught up with me but the refinement of this car coupled with the "as needed" explosiveness is intoxicating. Huge fan here. Can you tell?

"as needed" explosiveness" = I call that "letting the Genie out of the bottle"!

This is exactly how I felt after a couple of years in a 991S that had all the goodies. Amazing car, unbelievably capable (same performance as a 997 GT3), but it's just more fun to drive the 993. After a couple years with the 991, I sold it and pulled the trusty old 993 out of storage.

I've been contemplating selling my 993 for a new GT4........I know it's idiotic as this my 3rd 993 and by far the most perfect.

Gonna sit on my hands until the feeling goes away.

Congrats. The modern Porsches are a completely different experience. Alien, almost.

If you already have a 914, then you'll be set for the slow car experience, which I enjoy with the 993.

I have a 992S, which is not the same as a GT3, but still a very fast and capable car and more aggressive than Carreras in the past IMO. It's a nice counterbalance to the 993.

I can't imagine two cars more different than a 991.2 GT3 w/PDK and a 914. So that's fun.

I'd stay off the GT4 forums. Otherwise, it's only a matter of time.

I've been going back in time in my Porsche ownership, and now have a 993. Some day maybe I'll scratch the GT car itch, but after driving a GT3 on the track, it seems like that's a car that would be hard to get real use of on the street.

L23FPorsche - All the best finding the 993s next home/owner. .. With its pedigree ownership,, it's time on the market will be calculated in hours not days. .. Curious. .. Does the coupe have RSRs in place? .. When coming across "RSR" offerings on Gert's site or across the term "LPMM",, Its memory lane all over again. .. The 911 air cooling to water cooling transition,, the internet birthing the www.porschelist were notable, notables of the 1990s ..

rk-d - Got a kick out of what you wrote..."I'd stay off the GT4 forums" .. Truer words rarely spoken.
This Boxster/Cayman moment in time has been a long time coming. .. Hallelujah for the shared 4.0l boxer 6 w/400PS. Make my mid-engine grey or silver metallic . . .

Any 4.0l Boxster 6sp would make a suitable 993 S2 stablemate. .. "Buy a Ticket - Take the Ride".
Any wandering eyes for either the 4.0l Boxster or 4.0l Cayman? .. I'm on the cusp of ordering a '21 4.0l Boxster ...

That is an awesome question. I asked Robin if he would fab up a set for the car. He offered to but was really out of the "manufacturing" mode by the time I purchased the car. He has been an outstanding asset to this community.
