Drive shaft hole and grease escape
Hi
after driving i discovered my wheel and caliper
the outside side with drive shaft wheel
i removed the wheel and discovered it comes from the center hole of the drive shaft
not normal
i have questions
why the hole exist ? There should be a reason ?
perhaps a plug inside is not present any more
is it a good idea to put a plug to avoid the grease to escape
i will appreciate your feedback

it's come from your cv joint... the hollow shaft goes through into the joint... have you had the joints repacked recently ? I would not plug the hole, the normal movement of the joint generates a pull and push of air down the tube.

I would also be concerned that the joint is failing, heating up and so ejecting grease. Verify if this is an issue with those more knowledgable as I do not have experience in this area. It may be nothing or it may warrant an inspection of the joint and a repacking with grease.

As others have said the hole is a vent hole, no plug needed. You're in need of a grease repack at very least. Either a joint failed and overheated the grease, or the grease in there was so old it basically liquified.

Yes, I agree that something is failing and heating up the grease.
Good job catching it before something worse happens.
