Default Squeaky dash board or windshield help.

By the way i just officially joined the Rennlist family. I have asked a handful of questions and went to one rennlist get together and enjoyed the forum for months. awesome forum. thxs

ps i have a 95 c2 polar silver w/ rsr muffler and 18inch rims. i also have a b&m short shifter being built for the 993. my car was used as the prototype. I live in so cal and mark at redline has serviced my car.

getting back to my question. i have only owned my car for 4 months and i the car started to make a strange noise.

location - i think it is the dash board but i have heard about the windshield issue and fixing it with a kit. but i asked the question because i think it is the dashboard.

sound - when i am driving there is this sound which is like the noise that is made when you sit on a cheap leather couch. sort of squeaky noise. hard to describe but even sounds like the noise when rain is dropping on the windsheild or the noise of person squirming on a new vinyl/leather couch.

thx again

Search for "windshield creak" in the archives.
This is a 993 common problem. Put some wax (Pedro, Würt,..) between the rubber and the windshield.

Pedros Ice Wax is a high end lubricant for bicycles. You will get it from any good bicycle store or can be purchased online. I have also heard that Mobil 1 can be used to achieve the same result.

I used WD-40 believe it or not. Take a tongue depressor or like tool and gently lift the rubber seal off the windshield. Spray into the gap, clean and proceed every 6-9 inches.

Works like a charm....however....only lasts 3-4 months before new application is required.

Is it the rubber seal next to the glass or the rubber "gasket" between the dash and the rubber seal?? Thanks....

The rubber seal on the "outside" of the car that sits flush to the windshield. Be sure to spray deep into that groove.....

A friend in the UK told mwe to use a silicon spray. Less penetrant than WD40 or Mobil 1, it is less likely to stain various parts.

Mine has this no cost option too

When prying back the seal, I was pulling the seal away from the frame of the car......not away from the windshield.

I suppose one could utilize the same tactic and attempt doing it from inside the car , however, this could prove to be very very messy......

the pedro ice wax worked on my car. been 7 months since the last application (doing it only from outside of the car did the job) and still ok. before that the problem was exactly what mackenzie described.

ray, the seal will stick back to the car / glass surface after you applied the wax.

but i'd really like to know if anyone can tell us how to do the side windows. any idea?
