Default Seeking advice on a Kid Car

My wife and I want to buy some sort of trainer vehicle to teach Joshua (6 yo) and Emilie (4 yo) the basics of driving. Ideally, something built of metal with real rubber tires, a steering wheel, and gas/brake pedals. Gasoline engine preferable over electric. Also, something that can not go more than 5-10 mph so that I can run them down if they get out of hand.

We would use it on the school's running track to begin with. Basically, we are looking for something to teach them the basics before letting them try the 50 cc junior karts. They both seem interested in "racing with Daddy".

Are we cool parents or what?

Hey Doc

Will you adopt me?

I'll be a good son. Honest.

And I'll have the family TT home by midnight. Honest.

Why not just get them a kid kart? Most tracks have open practice days during the week with little or no activity. Kid karts are legal for 5 and above with most clubs.

I would like to be adopted as well, please. Unlike the previous applicant, I'm partially potty trained.

I'm thinking Motocross. XR 50 for both of em. Dont teach
em how to jump till they're 7. Then go 2 stroke, maybe a
KTM 65. You get the clutch, throttle, 6 gears front rear braking
then they can REALLY jump. By then once theyre racing
the switch to carts is easy!
Then take em to the world Supercross championships

You guys are killing me!

We'll adopt both of you Mikes, but you should know that I make my "kids" start mowing lawns at age 2 to pay for room and board.

hoffman and Richard, I'm afraid to put them into a real kart just yet. Learning to steer and brake might be a good first step.

OldGuy, ain't no way Nathalie is letting them onto a motorcycle (despite my best efforts) after I suffered two wrecks on my Ducati in one year. The fact that I rode a motorcycle for 4 years as a kid without incident ain't scoring me too many brownie points with her. Come to think of it, I probably have no right to mount any motorized vehicle after my luck (or lack of skill) these past 3 years!

Any other ideas for something better than a plastic electric toy, but tamer than a true kart?

Anir.....

How about a 1:2.3 scale 550 Spyder???

www.zoospeed.com

I saw one at Dunkel Brothers last year and it was cool. I wanted one and beg as I might, I didn't get one. See I'm not a spoiled as some people think

Would you adopt me too? I'll get Robert to mow the lawn for me, as long as you have a lawn tractor. He won't mind...

Anir, your not communicating with the wife well.
Plus you reinforced one of my old addages about bikes.
and you need to tell your wife this Ok repeat after me (only for bikes)
DIRT GOOD!!-STREET BAD!!
Ducati's are works of art, something you put in yoru living room
and look at. Street bikes=insane speeds with a bunch of people
that cant see you. Dirt bikes= a couple dead lizards and some dynamically
impaired snakes. Ok there is an occasional trip to the emergency room
but in our family its always DAD!! the Kids know how to stay upright!
Good luck Anir!!

JoAnne,

What a cool car! Nathalie and I were pretty excited until we saw the price ($7500+)! Do you know how many lawns they would have to mow to earn that?

OG,

You speak the gospel truth. My kid bike was an Yamaha Enduro, and it saw lots of street and dirt duty (actually, lawn duty on those occasions when I had to shake the police for riding underage).

I still feel a hole in my heart where the Duc used to reside. Even though I know I'm better off without her. Italian girls are nothing but trouble.

Speaking of lawn tractors. I placemy 4 year old on my lap and we ride the tractor (NOT when I'm mowing --blade is disengaged!) and he has developed a great sense for driving around obstacles, anticipating, learning to go through tight spots, etc. We can now go on 2nd or 3rd gear and he gets better and better. If you have one, try it!

Man Anir I would love to hang that bike in my living room,
GEEESH beautiful!! Ok lets try something else go into the
desert put the kids in you lap and let them drive the truck
around. that would work too. Do you have desert in
Kentucky?? by the way $7500 would fund two kids and
XR50's and 3 years of racing includign gear/travel!!

$7,500.00 is pretty darn steep!!! I just asked Robert and he said it was $4,000.00 at Dunkel's last year. No wonder all my begging didn't work. The guy selling it last year was from Germany. Maybe ZooSpeed is buying it from him and adding big $$$ to the price. Wow.... It was really really, nice, but not that nice.

Heck, you can buy the base model for ONLY $5,900.00

I'll keep on looking for you...

JoAnne
