Default Gouge in rear suspension

So as I was cleaning up the wheel wells during my first big service for the car. I noticed that the rear suspension control arm had a gnarly gash in it. I’m scratching my head trying to figure out what could’ve done it.

the other side is exactly the same.

Are your anti-roll bar drop links making contact?

The drop link mounts need to be perpendicular to the car’s centerline (with the suspension compressed). If not, they make contact with the subframe when the suspension cycles.

okay I think that’s where we get a little past my experience level.
Does the car need an alignment ?
is this an adjustment I’d be able to make ?

thanks for helping.

No re-alignment needed. The lock collar that’s holding the drop link mount in position needs to be loosened. Then the mount is rotated to the correct position, and the lock collar is properly tightened.

okay, I think we are getting somewhere here.
My next question is how do I know what the correct position is going to result in the drop link mount being perpendicular when compressed ?

could the spring have compressed enough for the drop link perch to strike the subframe?
does the perch have a mark on it above the drop link?
cool mystery.

If you need a new set of subframes, I’ve got a couple sitting in my garage, boxed up and ready to go!
