My wrenches.
1. Open end and 12 point closed
2. Flared set
3. Open end and ratchet end
4. Offset
Looking at the short wrenches and wrestling with the 6 side ratchet on the other end. These are all metric and I just have a regular SAE open end and 12 point to go with sockets..

This is a great socket set for everyday use and complete. I just bought a 1/4 wera socket set on Amazon because you want a small profile for those smaller bolts in hard to reach places and price is not unreasonable for the quality.

https://www.tekton.com/3-8-in-dr-skt...range=combined

It was $70 a few months ago.

Buying 6 point sockets instead of 12 makes sense to me. Less stripping. However, down side is that you need to buy specific triple square/star sockets for our German car bolts which is recommended anyway to avoid stripping.
Thanks for the recommendations. I don't own stubbies, could be a good place to start and scratch the tool itch. I have gear wrench and harbor freight open end/socket wrenches.

About Wera - I bought the 3/8 socket set when I bought my 911. Really like the wrenches and the packaging, nice to put in the frunk for emergencies. Use it 95% of the time in the garage. A bit expensive though..
However - just did the timing guides on my 380SL last week. Broke the ratchet while loosening a hex bolt head. No cheater bar or anything, although they were tight (three bolts holding alternator bracket to front of engine). Used a long hex socket (6"?) so it develops a lot of torque. It did loosen the last bolt, but broke the ratchet at same time. Not too happy, I'll see if warranty will cover. I see you can buy some fix kit for ~$20.

I bought the Wera 3/8" flex socket set. It is nice but I would have spent the money better if doing it again with the 3/8" Tekton socket set above. I would have not bought SK wrenches except for the flared set. All would be Tekton and maxed out their rewards program with finding a student.

Tekton rachet strength test

That Tekton warranty program is impressive. Log on to the website, upload the broken tool photo and wait for replacement.

If yours is a varioram and if you ever plan to change the plug leads..

1. Chapman MFG 5503 Industrial Screwdriver set - www.chapmanmfg.com No affiliation but can't praise this tool set enough. Handy elsewhere too but especially helpful when you are leaning on the varioram with your arms and hands behind undoing/doing up those hard to get to brackets holding the spark plug leads.

2. 300 ml Jubilee driver also known as hose clamp tool with multiple hex heads - best tool for the airbox removal but also handy eleswhere.

3. Patience

4. Patience

5. Did I mention patience ........?

Get yourself a MOTIVE power bleeder with the European head. Invaluable for pressure bleeding the brakes and clutch slave cylinder.

Let's see how Wera responds. Sent a warranty request through website.

Just a follow-up - Wera responded to my warranty request, I sent ratchet tool back to them (warehouse next to my old hometown in WNY), they sent a replacement no charge.

Use the set all the time, much better than older craftsman ratchet I used as temporary replacement. But at a much higher price..

I just got one of these impact screwdrivers to remove the 4 seized rotor retention bolts on the rear. I've only seen these used, never used one before but MAN believe me they work like magic. Four seized screws removed in less than 4 hits of the hammer. Under 2 minutes for the whole thing compared to drilling them out and then possibly having to repair the hole threads. for 30 bucks its a must have tool.
