Default 500e, 993(cab) Trade Thoughts

Thinking of trading my 1994 Mercedes e500(500e) with Renntech Options for a 993 Cabriolet.
Those that dont know, the 500e was built by porsche and was called the type 2758.

How / Where do you recommend I list for 993's owners looking to get something different?

Depends on condition. 993 cabs are more plentiful

Condition matters, however, a 993 is a modern classic a Mercedes Benz sedan is not, so, in the long run, I would think the 993 from a valuation standpoint is the way to go. Somehow I bet most 993 owners know this so finding a trading partner will be problematic.

To each, their own I guess, asking prices for the two online is probably a good proxy for relative desirability as a collector car.

The Porsche Club of America Panorama magazine has a Cars Wanted section. This might be an option.

Their classified section is pretty robust in general and a lot of nice cars. You probably have to join PCA to advertise.

Not sure how much much love you’re going to get on the 993 Forum with your “more collectible” quote - this may be true but better to look dumb and act stupid when looking for help here. Just my opinion.

Post pics of the 500E? I hear they're worth a thousand words. Each!

Also, more details, like mileage, your history with it, records etc. never hurts.

500E...cool.

I think Rennlist, Pelican and maybe 6Speed would be good places to do a trade. However, why not just sell the 500E outright and buy a 993 cab?

I would love to own a 500E, but, as I get on in my years, I find driving an autobox less and less appealing. At some point, however, my mountain bike-punished body will start to fail, so I'll be forced to drive a slushbox to get around.

Brings back memories of breaking my right ring finger on a slow-speed mountain bike crash, spiral fracture, called up the now ex-wife for a ride home, she said she was too busy at work, deal with it. So made it home on the bike and drove to the hospital shifting gingerly with the 540i6. Good part of the story is the surgeon was a bass player looking for a band, and we played together for 10 years.

When I busted my achilles (playing tennis), had to give up the stick for the duration of the cast.

mountain bike punished, gravel punished, cross punished... be dammed. I got a replacement left hip in 2015, not my choice really...road bike vs distracted SUV driver, but three pedals still rule the roost here. I’m years past AARP eligibility too. Granted, I walk kinda funny whenever I exit the vehicle....personally, I think it’s a swagger.

Looks to be a lovely 500E, but that said, it looks like it has at least 166K miles on it? I cannot imagine a nice 993 cab, even one with 166K miles, in similar mint condition as your 500E, going for less than $40K. Does the market for 500Es command $40K for a nice example with 166K miles? I really don't know.

If I was in the market for a 500E I would want to buy it from someone like DutchNy. He know how to tastefully mod his cars.

I did a Wiki search on the car and wow.... what a neat story. Too wide for the Mercedes plant so they partnered with Porsche to assemble them.

If you're interested..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_500_E
