Question Infant Seat Options

I've done an archinve search but didn't see this answered directly.

What are the infant seat options for the REAR of a 95 993? This will be for a newborn, so I assume rear-facing.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

Tone,

I don't think you're going to find any infant/rear-facing seats that'll fit in the back. I've got 4 kids of my own and I'll only transprot the older two (4 and 8yrs old) because I don't feel comfortable with any seats I've seen for my younger 2. You can, however, fit an appropriate seat in the front but, of course, you'd have to get a disabler switch for the airbag (thread on this just a few days ago...
Hope this helps.

Yeah, we just did this topic less than a week ago. Its a great thing to discuss since the 911 is the only true sportscar with a rear seat. I think the consensus is that a rear facing seat won't fit with someone in the front seat . My advice is to start feeding the kid like crazy and get them over 20 pounds

I feel your pain. I too have a '95 and went through the "mis-understanding" of the '95 airbag deactivation kit...

As far as seat fit, The Porsche confi convertable will fit in the back, but no one can sit up front.

Back when my 2 year old was an infant, we had a seat that was a carry along, it was nicer than other to fit in the back in that it snapped and locked into a base that stayed in the car.

If you like, I can forward you the make and model of that seat. It took us a while to settle on that one. It fit all of our cars that best. As a note, we only have small cars. No SUV's here...

Do not dispair, there is hope for your infant. I have been using my car for daily transportation for my son since day one, and he's 9 mo. old now. I use a rear facing infant carrier. It's made by Graco, and came with a stroller. It fits in the back seat, and utilizes the seat belt. There is a base that you can secure using the seat belt, and the carrier snaps into that, but there's nowhere near enough room for that base. The downside to this setup is that the passenger seat needs to be moved pretty far forward (but not all the way), so it's not ideal for long trips unless the passenger is 5'5" or so. I am 6', and can squeeze in the passenger seat for a trip across town. I have no pics, but can take some and post if you like.

Now my wife has decided she wants me to get a "normal" car seat. My son is at the weight limit of the carrier (20lb), and his toes and head are also pushing the limits. She tried to get me to buy an M5, but that just isn't going to work out. But that's the topic of a different discussion.

A new forward facing seat (rear seat) is going to require some modifications to accommodate a child tether bracket, and I've been putting it off. I have a posting that I put together under the Maintenance heading of my web site. I haven't done it myself yet, but I'm about to...

I had my son in the back seat when he was less than two months old (I think he was 4 weeks).

he was sitting rear-facing and my wife sat in front. Passenger seat was almost all the way front (my wife is quite petite...) but she said she was fine.

My 7 year old was also with us, we were in Porsche pic-nic, about 50 miles of total distance and careful driving of course.

Seat is just normal infant seat, made by Graco.

I even have a pic. I can e-mail it tonight if you need to, although I'm sure I need to blur my wife's face, she thinks she's never good looking in photos, I don't know if you guys have ever have experienced that... <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

I wonder what they think if/when I get GT3 seats?
