Since we have both joined rennlist on the same date.., In my honest and very personnal opinion, I do not like the car in your first post link.
Beside the huge signs of tampering with the undercarriage , there are 2 signs of irregularities that I let you guys discover.
I won't mention them, by respect to the seller surely lurking here, but if someone nails them, I would have to agree

Thanks for posting that Geolab.

Folks - I'm close to making an offer. Can anyone shed more light on that the above comments? Both the irregularities and also comments on the underside (which I notice is definitely different than my 993).

Haven't studied the pictures that closely but being a Swiss car, this one will have a g50.33 transmission. 3rd & 4th gear ratios are same as your US C4S. That's said, it's a relatively easy fix.

Buy the seller. The CGT crowd held nothing back..

https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...r-a-959-a.html

Furthermore, a 993RS still requires to be federalized as it is under 25 years of age and therefore pricing carries a premium with limited choices. In a few years, it will not have these issues.

Crap. I was definitely under a different impression. Thanks RL for saving me on this one. I definitely believe in "buy the seller" but I misunderstood the reputation.

Did some RS come with standard foglights? (as opposed to ducts)? Beautiful car and color combination pending notes above.

What about the value of driving a true RS, updated if one wanted it to be even better?

There are 18 993 RS in Europe right now only on a very popular ad website, the lowest requested price is 200k €, many are in the 200-280 range.

The point is, if i got it, having the last GT3 RS isnt a true pleasure in terms of driving it or using its abilities, because it is too much unusable at its best on normal roads...but then again, are we sure the 991 GT3 RS MK2 grants more driving pleasure and has more or lets say better heritage than a 993 RS?

I don't think so...if one can afford a gt3 rs for 270k €, the 993 RS is a very adeguate alternative, not at all reductive, especially for normal roads driving.

I would like very much to be in the "difficult" position to take such a choice...

Pastel Black, pastel red, makes your heart leap

It’s self explanatory. I think all here who have looked at the RS market know a bit about originality/usage and it’s effects on value. Use as you want, I’m stating a known fact.

good luck on the RS.

PPi no matter what. As it happens, I did see that RS last month. If you’d like some additional picture, I can certainly oblige.

I've seen a 993 RS that Canepa maintained and supposedly rebuilt the engine. It was recently in pieces at another very well respected SoCal shop getting properly sorted this time. It was sold for $320K earlier this year and had been in an accident at some point, followed by a poor repair & repaint job. The passenger door did not line up at all...

Yes, there are some €200K RSs for sale in Europe. And one sold for relatively little money in Monterey a few weeks ago. That car had also had accident history and was poorly repaired. Don't kid yourself, there is no such thing as a "cheap" Porsche. You pay now or you pay later. Do your due diligence.

I saw Canepa's Blue 993 GT2 at Luft this year. Before I knew it was Canepa's and saw the details of the car, I immediately wrote it off as a tribute car. Having owned a 993 RS before and been around a couple of real GT2's, there were several details that were not original, such as seats, fog lights, missing plastic trims. Soo.. you must do your research and due diligence before buying these cars.

BTW... the 993 RS is an amazing and special car. I don't think its worth the delta between a well sorted 993 C2 or C2S, but the modded non RS car will never hold its value like a real RS. Genuine RS parts are getting harder and more expensive to find, so this delta is getting smaller and smaller. Seats alone are around 12-18K. However, if you are going from a C4S to an 993 RS, the performance and driving experience are completely different. you will not want to drive a stock c4s ever again.

Sufficiently scared off of that car. But still encouraged by the hunt and the idea of owning an RS.

One more is available at good-guy dealer Fresno. Inquiring about the specifics on that one. Hopefully better results but either way a fun learning experience. Would be great to own one!

RE the one in Fresno, not going to comment on the price but the dealer does have a good rep. I would get more details on how the car was road certified and was NOT brought in on a show excemption.

Also the suspension is going to be a bit old and you may need to go through a lot/all of the suspension pieces.

And you still need a full inspection including paint.

one thing that does not come back to me, is that in one photo you can see the part of the cockpit that acts as a knee guard and that is identical to that of the normal version.
From what I’ve been apart so far I know that the 993 RS has the gloves compartment in the place where normal 993 have the passenger airbag module.
the 993 RS should have same knees protection as those of the 964.

Most of the 993 RS cars imported to the US came from Japan. Airbags were a requirement in Japan so any car sold new there had to have them installed from the factory. Therefore you have the standard airbag car knee protector lower dash on most of the cars you see here. The Canepa car referenced earlier came from Switzerland and does not have airbags. Those cars are more rare in the US.

450K+??
LOL

Buy a $70K 996 GT3 and play with that for a bit, then sell it or keep it as you see fit.

I would love to have a 993 RS replica. No way I would pay for a real 993rs. Anyone know of any out there? Don't know if I have the patience or know how to build one.
