Dan, Could you clarify? Imo it's a little like mob mentality.

Randy, I'm sorry, but did you post something else in this thread unrelated to mac993's responsiveness to a fellow Rennlister's request? If so, I'm off-line.

I agree with Dan in the Heartland. I personally did not find BatBoy nearly as frightening as I do George Clinton's mugshot (can't remember who uses that one), but I'm not going to gripe about either one of them -- even if Randy is a USC supporter. Any number of people have quirky avatars that might bug some, or even a lot of people. I think it makes the place a little more interesting, even if they draw a little good natured razzing sometimes. But f somebody finds them really offensive, maybe they should take that up off line and not in a public flogging.

Lighting farts can be good clean fun with some friends on a campout over a case of beer.

Lighting farts in the middle of a nice dinner party is boorish and rude.

I'm sure there are no shortage of people who think batboy is the height of humor; but there are enough people **here** would found it distracting & offensive that good manners would dictate taking batboy (not YOU, just batboy) elsewhere.

If you can't understand that, I'm not sure how anybody can hope to enlighten you.

Well, it didn't start out as a public flogging, and only turned into one after Randy basically indicated that he didn't care how offended anyone was, he wasn't going to change it. That's fine if that's his choice, but as adults, we have to live with the consequences of our choices.

All I said was that you had good karma.
I didn't think that batboy would illicit such an emotional outcry about his appearance. It was in pure fun on my part and so was my response to not removing it. Now as an ADULT I need deal with the consequences of my actions? Do people really have that much of a lack of humor that they would put me on their ignore list? Do people pride themselves so much on maturity that they are devoid of having any sense of humor or tolerance? The only thing I am guilty of is taking for granted that people do have a sense of humor and that I could give them a little ribbing. I can't believe how serious this has become for some of you.

I guess I just couldn't get that worked up about that avatar, and took Randy's comments as tongue-in-cheek. Main point is, do it offline.

We're not judging you, Randy, we're judging your avatar. Just because you don't find it offensive does not mean that others don't. I think the interesting thing about this whole deal is how you seem to be getting off on the fact that you're offending people. The rules of a polite society indicate that intentionally offending people should be avoided, yet you seem to be getting some strange sort of satisfaction from it.

And besides, I am the one around here supposed to get off by pissing people off. Of course, it happens more on the GT3 and GT2 forums.

DTR, On the contrary I am saddened that I offended anyone and am certainly not 'getting off on it'. I had no idea that the picture would strike such a cord with someone. Maybe it's not what it was but rather that I said I would not take it off (in humor) to those who 'may' think that they have more priviledge on the board than I do, or you or anyone else that does not conform to their requests. However I'm just speculating and am in no way pointing my finger at anyone. The fingers are being pointed at me, I think it's the middle one

At the risk of offending all of the cool kids in class who were offended by Randy's avatar, let me step forward as the person Randy was PMing last night. He had some seat questions, I tried to answer them and happened to offhandedly remark that I thought he should keep his avatar.

Personally, I thought the avatar was amusing. We're all so hardcore with our avatars of our CARS and RACE CARS and SHINY WHEELS, etc. (myself included! ), that the humor of the avatar seemed to simply be one person's expression of individuality. It's not as if it were a gross shot of an aborted fetus or even a politically charged, photoshopped image of, say, George Bush kissing Britney Spears at an awards acceptance. If Bat Boy is offensive, then I guess he offends every time he appears on the cover of the Weekly World News or whatever it's called. If it appears on newsstands in 3,000 Wal Marts, 2,300 Rite Aids and 2,200 Walgreens across the country, I dunno, that "humor" seems pretty mainstream to me.

I'm only saying something because my personal integrity tells me that it's cowardly to support someone in private but be part of the silent minority (Majority? Who knows? Who cares?) when that person is being publicly whipped.

I don't mind, I have secret spy photographs of the big turtle testing a jet-propulsion method for finding more speed for his racecar.

Let's just say he must have learned a few physics lessons from the last camping trip!
