Default 993 Tranny Oil Suggestion

I apologize if this has been discussed before.

I have a 993 with 12-13k miles and orig tranny fluid. I will be changing the fluid myself soon, went on Suncoast and was met with 3 choices. Would anyone be able to recommend which one to use. As i'll be saving a couple bucks doing it myself I have no problem spending more for a better fluid.

Suncoast has the Porsche labeled "transaxle fluid"

Delvac is great for a track car but I'd use either PTX or the Porsche fluid for a street car.

The big difference you'll notice is the better cold shifts w/ the latter two options relative to Delvac

Very happy with Delvac on my '96, 130k miles. Just put Motul 75-90 syn in my '89 targa. Second gear crunch is gone.

With no front transfer case, you can get buy with 1 gallon. The 4S and Turbos need over 1 gallon.

Buy 4 qt. It takes approximately 3.8qt before fluid begins to drip out the fill hole.

I would still change it. It's still turning. Just not being driven by the shaft. The front transfer case needs about a liter. So you need just over a gallon. Mobil Delvac 75W90.

I'm probably one of the few that's tried all three of those + the Redline 75w90 NS mentioned above.

I much preferred the #1 and #2 (the Shell-based factory fill and the newer Mobilube PTX) in your list to the Delvac and Redline. As Bill mentioned the cold shifts were much, much improved with either of the Porsche oils.

With only 13K miles on the box most any of the recommended options above should work just fine. It is when you approach the end of the service life of the first and second gear synchros small differences in the viscosity of the gear lubricant make a big difference in drivability. For some that is around 80k miles for others that is well over 100k miles.

+2. Exactly what I do. Delvac needs heat for smooth shifting but this is exactly what is needed on the track.
