No, no , no.....
It's the door check strap - it attaches thru the firewall to the shroud. If you try to exit the car while driving, the strap pulls the shroud into the fan giving an audible reminder to get back in. It only works once though. Still better than stepping out onto the pavement at 80 mph.

With the extra time you have on hand, lets change those top valve-cover gasgets we've talked about four years ago.

I used to post-up both part numbers when this would come up every few months... Anyways, thanks for the laugh, Andreas.

And that engine bay is art.

The magnesium fan and its accessories contain multiple KNOWN failure modes... This is just one more symptom of the #dated engineering found in these cars. My business, which has been reliably serving the air-cooled market since 2019, has a replacement unit in development. Using cutting edge cfd, advanced turbo-encabulation kinematic design, and proprietary real-time data streams, we were able to develop a FAR SUPERIOR replacement. As an early funder to my Kickstarter, you can purchase one of these new aerospace grade ABS replacement units for an introductory price of $1899. Full production price will be AT LEAST 20% higher.

PM me for more details.
