Coupe Headliner Droop - Missing Part or Something?
Has anyone seen this before? Battery is out because car is 50% torn apart so I cannot take pics from the area with a retracted sunroof.
Can anyone hypothesize what is missing or what is wrong here? I am asking so I can get ahead once the car starts coming together.
Pic of said droopage.....
Thanks,
Paul

I seem to recall from my 86' Carrera there is no missing part, just loss of fabric tension where the headliner is glued around the sunroof opening. by removing the sunroof panel you may be able to detach the glued edge, pull up the slack and reattach it. with some 3M Black or Yellow weatherstrip adhesive.

Paul,
I’ve seen that before. The leading edge of the vinyl wraps around the roof edge there and is attached with adhesive on the top side. Lousy attachment and the tension of the headliner pulls it away from the adhesive.
Only solution is to open the sunroof and clean off the old ashesive on the roof upper edge. Reglue (Pliobond Industial Adhesive) a little at a time while stretching the headliner edge. Secure with binder clips and stir sticks.
Job is a major PITA *** there’s no space to work and your working over your head. The sunroof is in the way of course. Plus the last thing you want to drip on your interior is Pliobond.
Sorry i cant be more encouraging. Getting the sunroof completely out of the way would be great but I assume that removal is a big job.

Removal of the sunroof is a PITA! Even worse trying to get it back in! Know this because had my sunroof liner replaced OEM at Porsche and they were cussing the job!

As always, thanks guys! Appreciate the info and directions.
I guess you guys helped me add to the list of things I need to buy.
TBH there has not been one aspect of this car that has not been a PITA one way or the other so that is expected at this point.
Best,
Paul

On my 86' Carrera with the identical sunroof mechanism as the 993 I had to remove the sunroof to replace one of the drive cables that open and close the roof because it separated from its end termination.
To replace the cable I recall I removed both the sunroof inside vinyl cloth liner panel and the outer steel roof panel. I don't recall removing and reinstalling the panels was very difficult although my experience was many years ago..

Paul,
A correction to my earlier post - when I fixed this issue on my car - many years ago and minor compared to yours - I used clear silicone adhesive, not Pliobond. It's held up for 17 years. The Pliobond can is at my garage but it's their general purpose industrial contact cement. Great for lots of applications but too tough to use here.
I think this is a better option because the product is easier to use in this confined space and you don't have to sweat dripping contact cement on the interior or headliner.
Get some office binder clips and nice heavy stir sticks. If you pull stretch a section into place, use the binder clips and pieces of stir sticks under to disburse the clamping force. Then use the silicone adhesive in maybe a one or two inch section and clamp/stir stick into place. This a finesse and a PITA job so take your time. At least if you slop some silicone adhesive onto the headliner it'll wipe right off.
The way P did this was down and dirty. The should have use a doubler strip and rivets or screws that were hidden.
