Default What is this light

I am wondering if anyone knows what the little red light is. The hole below it was there for a military pin the previous owner had stuck to the dash. I retired from a different branch of the military so I had to remove it. I am currently working on fixing the water leaks and replacing the carpet, insulation, sound deadening. I have searched the web and don’t see it on any other pictures of 993 dash boards. Any ideas?

That appears to be fitted by a previous owner, most likely a radar detector of some sort. The little rectangle is where the headlamp beam height control would be located.

I haven’t seen any radar sensors any where on the car. I believe your rite about it being some type of aftermarket install. I just wanted to see if it looked familiar to anyone before I go to the effort of opening the dash and chasing wires. Unfortunately the previous owner sold the car on consignment thru a local independent dealer due to severe medical issues. I am not able to ask him directly and the dealer didn’t know.

Almost certainly from that old radar detector that used two lights, K20 or K40 or something like that. So your previous owner probably ripped it out, had two unused lights there, and replaced one of them with his pin . I bet there’s no wiring even there.

That was a pretty common mod in the 90s. I’ve seen a few of them.

Awesome. Thanks. I was hoping someone would recognize this. As soon as I finish scrapping glue from my carpet and sound deadening replacement. I plan on removing the aftermarket radio and looking at this light. I will let you know what I find.

Aftermarket alarm system?

I remember being too poor to actually install an alarm in my 82 Honda Accord - so I just fitted a blinking LED into a spot on the dash with a toggle switch in the coin compartment! Brings back some good memories!

my 993 had this in one of the center console trays for a valentine one.

previous owner also utilized that hole you have there to put the Valentine one radar switch in there as well.....

you dont wanna know where he hid the actual radar detector in the car......

I bet the previous owner covered the hole with a pin, not had the hole made for the pin!
