what's with the handbasket handle?
hello,
can someone tell me why does the 993 have this handbasket handle looking thing to house the rear brake light? at first i thought it's only for the Targa and Cab. but i notice coupes have 'em too. why?

I love this handle. To me it's the most distinctive styling part of the car. It also reinforces my friend's comment "this car looks like it came from ToysRUs".

Most, but not all, '95's had it. '95's that were built later in the year came with the window mounted TBL.
I think I've read here that Porsche had certified the basket handle brake lights for the targa and cabrio but didn't have the approval for the window mounted one until late '95. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone else can clarify this point.

i see. thanks for the clarifications. to me it looked kinda odd sitting on top of what looks to be one of the best rear end of a sports car!
if the basket handle is a requirement for pre-96 cars, then why does it not exist on the 964s as well? those have window mounted ones. i don't see why POrsche cannot adapt the same design.

I removed the third brake light and have the holes filled in when I installed my new RS wing. When the body shop was spraying the RS wing, I asked them the fill in the holes. They did an excellent job of filling in the holes, sanding is down and respraying the rear deck lid.
I love my '95, but I never cared for the Third brake light.

I was thinking that I may get a quote on filling the bumperettes also while I am at it. Its not that I hate the bumperettes (they are not that bad of an eyesore on black) I just love the long clear lenses on the euro model.
