Default RSR Sound recording

I recorded this audio last weekend. Unfortunately, I don't believe the low frequency capabilities (or the entire frequency range) of the mic on my video cam is sufficient to show the differences between a stock muffler and the RSRs. My original recording with stock mufflers sounds exactly the same...although I failed to record the stock mufflers at idle. My ears can tell the difference much better. I've already shipped back the cores so I can't do another recording. I'm too lazy to want to put the original mufflers back on in any case.

I decided to post the RSR recording anyway, just in case people find it useful.

My car is a 1998 C2S which has the motor sound package. I have no idea if RSRs on a car without the motor sound package will sound this way or not. I have no other engine mods, and the stock cat is installed. These are Gillets.

The file is located here. [edited 2/7/04...now an mp3 file]

The video cam was placed directly behind the rear bumper during the recording of idling, and in the passenger seat for the high speed run. During idle you can hear the pitch change; at this point the video cam was placed on the ground right behind the bumper, pointing underneath the car.

If I had to do it again, I would borrow some professional sound recording equipment (emphasizing the best mics possible) and also record from another car driving next to the RSRs.

BTW, installing the RSRs was easy. Took about an hour, and didn't even require jacking up the car.

FYI, each RSR is 4 pounds lighter than the stock muffler, for an 8 pound weight savings.

Thanks again to Robin for providing such a great service. PS>Robin, wish you the best.

98993c2s, I see you are in Austin. I, too, live in Austin and would love to hear them live because i am considering RSRs. My 95 does not have the motorsound option, so I would assume there would be a more noticeable change in my car. Please PM me if you would not mind taking me for a short spin, so to speak.

Considering I'm a technical guy, I feel stupid asking this, but what common software is able to play back an .mp4 file? I have Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, and MusicMatch, and none of them can handle it.

Thanks for your help.

I have the same media programs and just clicked the link and then "left clicked" to listen to the recording. I did not "right click" to save just "left clicked" to listen. The varioram sounds so nice towards the end of the recording....that little wistle.

QuickTime will do it; the file is MPEG 4 format.

That worked. Looks like the Quicktime plug-in picked it up.

Great sound!

98993C2S..

You should email John D. and figure out a way to post this sound card to Robin's site.

I can't say I have seen a thread that contains the ability to actually hear is product in action !!!

I know Robin would love the idea.......actually, it couldn't come at a better time to let him know his mufflers can now be heard by 993 er's around the world on his site !!

Can this happen ??

Chris,

I have the same woe's, but in my part of the country it will be until April before I get the chance to jump back in the car for a run. Close to 4 feet of snow and temps in the minus 30's.
I've had to park it since mid October because of the bad weather.

Cheers to all the guys who can drive year around!

I was hoping to have two files, before RSR and after RSR, but it didn't work out. Perhaps someone with better recording equipment could do this. But if Robin wants to use this recording he is more than welcome.
