Default Immobilizer - Authoritative Answers?

Is there a thread or an authoritative answer on how to find out the immobilizer code for '96. I'm failing in finding/searching threads.

A) Someone mentioned it is on the immobilizer under the seat. If so, is there a photo (hiding the code of course) someone can share. Would I need to take the seat out?
B) Someone else mentioned going into dealership. If so, what did they bring in and who did they talk to? I emailed my dealer service advisor that I use for my other cayenne and he said I'd have to buy new key fobs???
C) I called PCNA and they said I would need to call dealer parts department.... Left VM. Rinse and Repeat.

I have one fob that works, one that doesn't (it flashes so it has power)

Thanks.

Brandon

You can get it from the dealer with the VIN -- some are difficult about it and some not so much; the dealer who (occasionally) services my Cayman gave it to me with no questions asked. Some, as you note, make you pay and require proof of ownership.

This is correct info. You may check your owners manual and warranty books etc. The code may be written down. It is not the radio code. Look for a four digit number. Any 993 specific FOB can be programmed and overwritten using this code and the easy to use (not really) process of coding.

My dealer provided me with my radio, alarm, and another code, I forget which code, by pulling up my VIN on their computer. They also printed a copy for my use. My Porsche dealer was pleased to provide the information at no charge and I didn't feel as though I was imposing.
Your original manuals may also have the codes that you are searching for.
There will be other members that will be able to help you correct your inoperative key fob.

Brandon,

A member using number PP00830 helped me with what ultimately was simple to correct. Good guy.

Go directly to the service manager with your VIN and your vehicle registration slip to prove ownership. Explain your problem and the difficulty you've experienced. If they've been there long enough to remember 993's, they will understand your request.

Dealers generally require a current registration in your name and an ID, such as a driver's license.

I can't imagine dealers handing out immobilizer codes to any yahoo who comes in with a VIN. If they do, they are morons!

@nine9six Yes - I was looking to see who had success when they went to the dealership. That way I armed with some success stories.
My 'service advisor' emailed me to say I needed to buy totally new keys when I asked him about it.

Thanks all.

Yeah, thats not true!!! Nothing changes in the keying of your car. You are only pairing your key fob to the immobilizer via the code.

If your service "advisor" persist, with this incorrect information, it probably means he has no idea what is required for the older air-cooled 993 circa, vehicles, and should probably stop handing out little pellets of incorrect information like a Pez dispenser.

The immobilizer code is available from a decent dealer by providing your VIN and title for proof of ownership but expect some to give you the run around. I confirmed this by calling PCNA when my dealer gave me the massive runaround. If you are in the south, I would recommend AVOIDING Porsche of Nashville. I had to make 6 trips to them to get my immobilizer code. First 3 trips I drove there in a Prius and a Ford Escort during a quiet times (almost no customers there) and they would not give me light of day or want to talk. Fourth trip they advised that it requires 2 hours of shop time at over $300 to "pull the code" from the car. I advised them this is not the case. Fifth trip they advised that they need the car for 2 hours of shop time and I had to buy the keys from them at a cost of over $500. Sixth visit I drove in with the 993TT and talked to the manager who apologized for the run around and got me the code. That run around cost them a sale as I had seen a 997TT in the showroom I was going to purchase. Have avoided them like the plague since.
