Default Cracked Engine Carrier

Not sure of the history of this part on Ebay but this may be why RS engine mounts call for a reinforced engine carrier.

That's an interesting location for an engine carrier crack.

The typical cracks are where the sheetmetal meets the left & right mounting points.

When I removed mine to fit the Rennline reenforcement that is what I found the metal was ok but the paint had cracked indicating slight flexing there.

Even a tiny edge nick to sheet metal can become a propagation point for a crack that over many miles will grow. I once saw a demo where a guy used a straight pin to scratch the fillet radius under the head of a 3/4" bolt. He then tightened down the bolt in a jig and with almost no effort the head of the bolt, as Dirty Harry would say, popped clean off.
I suspect a little welding of the crack and the fix will be in!

Was that a 3/4-10 coarse thread UNC balsa wood bolt or a 3/4-16 fine thread UNF balsa wood bolt?

This one is on my 964, rothsport reinforced it. The factory one, 100% stock car was stressed when removed from the car. My 89 also had similar cracking (g body carrera) on a 100% stock car. We gusseted and reinforced that one while engine was out for service.

No, it was a lab demonstration at a fasterner house where what I seem to recall was a grade 5 capscrew was mounted in a

Skidmore-Wilhelm Bolt Tension Measuring Devices

No joke here.

Has anybody tried the tubular engine carrier from Rennline? Not that much more expensive than sending a stock one in for the reinforcement installation.
