Default 993 cab interior light keeps dropping ... solutions?

The overhead interior light of my 97 cabriolet won't stay put. It keeps
dropping down by my review mirror.

It appears that the pins that hold in place have carved grooves in the
cardboard behind the vinyl.

The dealer attempted to fix it by wrapping it with tape to wedge it in.

I'm hoping someone has a more elegant solution. I'm kind of looking
for a metal plate or somesuch which can be inserted into the opening
with indentations for the pins to hold the light in place.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and come
up with a decent solution (short of wrapping tape around the unit
and wedgint it back in again.

Thanks.

I tried bending the pins a bit - no luck. So I got some black silicone caulk and 'glued' the sucker in place. After 9 months it hasn't dropped out once. Since it's just silicone, it could be pulled out if needed.

Having the same problem in my 97 Cab. I will try the silione. solution.

You would think an expensive, well engineered vehicle could get something as simple as this right by now.

Default sending this slightly OT..

hi, i have a targa, and assume my dome light is same as cab. given that, i am trying to remove the dome light in order to proceed with trim removal needed to get to targa frame. i have tried to pry with flathead screwdriver but am unwilling to exert lots of force on it. is there a quick trick to removing the dome light ? i dont want to wind up with the same prob you guys have of a dropping light either. where are the pins?

TIA , john.

Default Any other solutions to the dropping light?

I've tried the silicone method and there isn't a lot of surface contact. I suppose a new light wouldn't solve the problem? What an engineering marvel -- I guess fasteners are in short supply in Germany.

cutting a small piece of double-sided 3m foam tape works as well. it's what i used... wow! over a year ago. & it's fine.

Default I'm bumping this thread in the hopes someone...

has discovered a better solution since this topic was last discussed. The double sided tape works for a while, then kerplop. What an engineering marvel!

Mine is still in without issue when using the silicone caulk ... Almost 2 years now. Use a liberal amount and cut off any excess when it's dry.

I also used the black silicone adhesive and my light has not dropped in over 6 months.

There is one marked black silicone gasket and one marked black silicone adhesive.
You want the adhesive one.
They both look alike on the packaging.

My dealer threw some black silicone in mine, but anytime I park the car southern facing, the header gets so hot (black car to boot) the light falls down.

I'm hoping for a solution, too.
