Cheapest 993TT in the country?
I saw this car yesterday and wondering what people think: https://nwct.craigslist.org/cto/d/19...669522051.html
The respray is not good... actually had a prep issue with contamination and an area around the rear quarter shows 'splitting' off the paint while it was still wet. Salvage title due to a wire loom fire about 14 years ago. One of the turbos is leaking oil but that's supposed to be fixed by the seller. Engine sounds good but I did not drive it. It needs all new tires, alignment and how know what else. The seller says she has $40K in receipts.
I'm seeing 50K mile TT on BAT not selling in the $130-140K range so how cheap would this car have to be to make sense?

I vaguely remember seeing a clean high miles turbo selling for below $100K recently. I think a fair asking price for a clean high miles turbo would be just over $100K.
From there you need to deduct the impact of the salvage title. Sometimes that can be 25% or more. Maybe in this case it’s a little less.
Then you have to decide if you can live with the paint or if you will repaint. A good repaint might be $10K.
That’s a lot of 5th grade math...
If you buy it, you will have a high miles, salvage title car that needs a paint job...how would you use this car?

I'm looking for a drivers car -not a show car or an appreciating investment but of course I would prefer to keep my money 'secure'. I was not really looking for TT, just 993's and this one popped up local to me so I had to take a look.
Yes, it seems people still think these are worth over $200K but in reality there are lots at reasonable prices. i.e. there's a nice '96 TT on PCA with 77K miles asking $115K and not moving.
The black car will cost more than that with just a repaint and engine rebuild and will still have a salvage title.

Save your money and pay $130K for a 30k-50k mile car with clean title.

Craig's list Posting Decode:1996 Porsche 993 (911) Factory Turbo AWD 6-Speed.
Posting Decode:1996 Porsche 993 (911) Factory Turbo AWD 6-Speed.
$89,000.
Interesting trade considered.
- Exceptional. Black with Tan interior. -- Yes for 162K miles
- Everything works, looks great, - no ***** missing
- runs and drives excellent. - starts and can be shifted into most gears
- Rear wing, rear wiper, - ?
- A/C blows cold, power and heated seats, climate control, - A/C blows, don't it!
- Pirellis on RUF rims, factory sunroof with new seals. - Tires needed
- $20,000 spent 5000 miles and 2 years ago on engine, - Expect at least $20,000 in repairs in the next 2 years
- $7000 on paint, - Paint will never look OE again
- $2000 on suspension. - Needs alignment
- Runs and drives superb.- starts and can be shifted into most gears
- No oil leaks.- Yet
- Paint is excellent with one exception, there is a small patch on right rear quarter with grinder marks and a prep blemish -- have $1200 estimate for proper fix. Interior never painted or played with. Shows much less wear than miles indicate. No cracks. Excellent headliner, dash, door panels, seats.Paint will never look OE again
- 162,000 Miles.
- Branded title due to electrical fire in right rear interior behind backseat in 2000 when it had 50,000 Miles. Entire wiring harness was made new, right rear seat leather was replaced. -- Your experience with electrical reliability will vary
- It's been easy to insure full coverage as a high-end sports car ever since repaired. -- What experience caused seller to make this comment?
- Owned by celebrity Porsche engine designer, mechanically tended to by some of the best in North America. - Doesn't want to get into internal engine work again after being dinged for $20,000 five thousand miles ago
$89,000.
Interesting trade considered.

I agree with GBos1- save your money- this sounds like a project waiting to happen and with a TT, EVERYTHING costs 2x what a regular Porsche costs. If you could get it for the price of an S with that mileage on it, you could take your chances and maybe do OK, but 90K sounds high. I would not go over $ 65k unless EVERYTHING checked out.

It will always be a salvaged title car with a story. When you buy it, when you show it to your friends, especially when you sell it.
I've been looking for a 993tt for myself and see prices al over the place. Bottom line...."buy once, cry once". In other words pay the extra money for a good example instead of trying to make one a good example. There is a reason it is selling for the price it is selling for, and most importantly hasn't sold at that price.

How many of us would sit idle with paint coming off the car after spending $ 7,000 ?? That seems fishy. I had the front end of my car redone 2 years ago to get rid of rock chips and the scratches under the front end and it's life-time guaranteed! what's going on with this one!?!
