It used to be, when I had a ~40 mile R/T commute, I drove it 3-4 days a week, depending on if I had carpool duty, then I had to drive a car that could accomodate 3 adults. Since I changed work locations and my wife recently retired, it is less convenient to get the 993 out of the garage, so I tend to drive another car, that stays outside.

I would have no qualms about DDing the 993 from a reliability perspective. We have had 3 Porsches (68 912, 80 911SC and the current 993) and they all are happy when driven, and driven relatively hard, especially the 912 (unfortunately no longer with us)

Mine has been my DD for over 12 years. But I have a perfect 13-mile (each way) reverse commute (last one in the Bay Area) and a covered, reserved parking space. At 169,000 miles, I have been thinking about starting to go easy on it and commuting in something else. But I can't imagine giving up doing one of my favorite things (driving my 993) every day.

I've DD my 95 since 2001, when I bought it. All weather in SoCal, so that really means all sun and occasional rain. But now not even any rain. LOL! I had tracked it actively for the first 3-4 years of my ownership (till I bouht a dedicated track car), replaced the suspension to PSSS9s waaay back then and still feel great. Replaced a clutch at approx. 120k miles, and now have 169k; runs amazing! Uses maybe 1.5qts per 5000k miles, and that's with a few tiny drips off the cam chain housing ...which I still haven't fixed for years bc it's too expensive. Other than normal oil changes and the occasional plug change (which at 60k use didn't even need it), it's been trouble free. Great car!

I've been daily driving my car for the last 7 years or so in the sun, rain, and occasional snow fall up here in the PNW.

I DD mine 3-4 times a week on a 15km drive. Been quite reliable but have encountered 2 x check engine light which turned out to be the same misfiring issue. Perfect size and balance btwn responsiveness and power for regular driving.

I say sort of because I have no work commute and my primary mode of transportation is probably my bicycle. I put 3500-4000 miles a year on my 993.

I wouldn’t have it any other way
Identical experience here fir the last 14.5 years and two 993 cabs. Currently my only street-legal car in Boston.

PS. Oh, yeah, the radio is not original as per sticker under the hood. What should I do?

I DD mine four seasons in the Midwest.

Not always the best idea but the most fun.

137k on the odometer. My goal is a million. Haha.

I've owned three 993's over the past 15 years and daily drove two, the first and the current one (both C2). For a while I owned a gorgeous low mileage C2S that I only drove for fun, but I found it actually wasn't all that fun worrying about keeping the miles down and about getting dinged by soccer moms in the parking lot. So I sold it and bought a 100K mile C2 and am now back to driving a 993 daily in Socal. I've found all my 993's to be as reliable as any car I've owned, especially when driven regularly. I don't see any reason why a 993 wouldn't be a completely reliable daily driver so long as it is maintained properly. I agree with a previous poster that the German cars of the 1990's and early 2000's might be the last of these type of cars that will hold up over the long run. I'm skeptical that the more complicated electronic systems on later model cars will last as long, and what will be available for replacement parts.

I work freelance so I don't have a "normal" commute. The car is used for everything from a few miles to the grocery store, to business trips from San Diego to LA, and plenty of weekend road trips to Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, etc.

Hope this isn't too off-topic, but for those of you who have used 17" wheels and/or all season tires, how much did you find that changed the daily driving experience? I'm running 18" Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, and with the lowered suspension and Koni sport shocks that came on the car, it's perhaps a bit hard riding for DD on San Diego's bumpy roads. I'm debating if it's worth trying 17's and more compliant tires.

My car came with stock suspension and 17" Cups. I changed to PSS9 suspension and 18" hollow twists. The difference in ride was HUGE...much more rigid. Since I did suspension and wheels at the same time, it's hard to say which had the most impact. But I very strongly suspect the major difference is due to the 18" wheel, and much smaller sidewall tires. If I were gonna DD my car, I would definitely go back to 17" Cups.

FWIW, I have the stock 17" Cups and PSS9s as well, and my DD commute over the decades throughout the less-than-stellar LosAngeles streets/fwys has been excellent. With the car lowered, no one would know Cups are "only" 17" (except we car geeks ) since the wheel well looks nicely filled; it's a great visual stance, IMHO. I'll never go to 18s because it drives great and looks fantastic to me.

I drive my 96' Carrera every day as it is my only car and my wife drives her car to work. Presently I drive it to appointments three days a week for about 30 min. round trip, additional driving for shopping and errands. It gets driven pretty much every day to some extent because my Standard Poodle likes to go for daily romps at the local dog park and he loves to sit shotgun with the windows down and the roof open! I don't see why longer drives would be an issue other than the 993 is not exactly the most comfortable car, standing in traffic, will require lots of clutch work and because of its height, the 993 is almost invisible to any driver in an SUV or a cross-over truck. In tight traffic. Also during rush hour, one can be forced into staying in other vehicles' blind spots and for minivan/SUV/Crossovers' that would be anywhere other than adjacent to the front hood of their vehicle.

I DDed my C4 for the spring and summer. It was pretty great. I'm splitting the daily duties with another car now, and will put the 993 away for the winter at the end of the month, and then can look forward to DDing it again next year.

I used my 95 cab for 4 years as my only car in all types of weather and had a set of snow tires that made it go everywhere except when snow was over 8 inches or so.........just change the fluids on time......about 8k a year in mileage.........
