Default Fuchs-style paint on newer wheels

Hi all,

The powdercoater will be redoing my wheels for free since the "reflective chrome" powdercoat reacted with the clear powdercoat. (It turned dark grey then cracked, then started to flake off.) He doesn't want to do reflective chrome again.

I'm thinking "black chrome" or dark gray with polished lips. It would be reminiscent of the classic Fuchs wheels, and I think it would look great on a 993. Do any of you have pictures of a 993 with wheels done this way? It would be great if the 993 was black or a dark color.

Thanks,

LeeH

Here are photos of a stock 18" wheel painted with Fuchs black and a polished rim, IMHO, they look pretty terrific. (And could use some wheel cleaner....)

My avatar shows them at speed, (Thanks to David Leong's immense photography skills.)

Jim,

I agree they look terrific... I have a second set of hollow-spokes that I painted black, and use for track tires (seems you did too, and we must have similar tastes as I also mounted MPSC). I never thought to polish the lips, but after seeing yours I think it's a great idea. Did you clear coat after you polished?

The new 550 edition Boxster has 'fuchs-ish' wheels. I like the looks of them.

Can't quite tell by the pic, but that Boxter looks like it has the MY'02 5-spoke rims, just painted for this special edition. Looks good, though!

Jeff, No clear coat on my polished rims, as they are also track wheels, although I receive as many compliments on them as the BBS LMs I use for street wheels.

Edward,

I'm pretty sure that's what they are.

I had my wheels painted Porsche Black/rims polished. Look a lot like Jim's only the centers are darker and match the color of my car. I love the look!! Wheel Enhancement painted mine-they did an awesome job! Sorry-it's too nasty out to pull the car out to take pictures.

FYI-HRE makes a 17" Fuchs-style wheel, the 311. If you're OK with 17's, you could actually have the Fuchs look on a 993.

That link states that the wheels won't work on a 993, 996, or Boxster.
