Should i buy 993 if i already have 964?

The 996 has grown on me over the years. When I first drove one I thought it felt like a Toyota. I don't know what I was smoking, because when I've driven them more recently I was impressed. The exterior has grown on me and the car drives like a proper Porsche.

I think if it looked anything like the 997 does... you would change your mind. Water Cooled is far superior over Air Cooled in means of engine cooling, Heating the cabin and HP.

I actually drove an A4 and an S4 in the same month as my first 996 test drive. At the time I preferred the Audis. They did refinement and classy interiors better than Porsche at that time. 996 was trying to play at that game but wasn't as Audi as an Audi, nor was it as Porsche as a Porsche. At the time it just seemed odd. Now, with hindsight, it makes more sense to me.

I just went from a long time 964 owner to the 993. All said above about the refinement is true. A lot depends on your own perspective and needs. The 964 market is really really hot right now, where IMHO the 993 has had it's day already in the spotlight. For me I was looking for the right C2 experience, and the slightly more modern outlook of the 993 appealed to me on all fronts (better lighting, suspension, 6 spd, and other bits) and the 964 parts bin is getting smaller as the cars get modified or become too valuable to play with anymore.
For me was a move from a black 964 C4 that I felt I could no longer modify in the direction I wanted to go... to a C2 993 that is in better shape overall for only a 6K difference once the deals were done.
I do miss the more throaty engine note and for some reason the 964 felt more explosive and exciting. Very subjective. But I can spend all day on a road trip in the 993...
Have fun! It's like choosing among very good options.

Whether we like the looks or not, the 996 was a huge step forward and as many have said (Walter R. included) "I'll take the newer Porsche model any day".
If you talk about driving pleasure and all those touchy feelings then we can argue for ages as they are all very subjective.
Also, can't compare a 964 C4 vs. 993 C2. Nor a 993 C2 to a 964 RS. The cars are totally different.
I have both, it's hard to chose. Really hard.
