Lightbulb PPI

I am having a PPI done at Braman porsche in West Palm Beach Florida, the car in question is from a used car lot about 5 minutes down the street. Obviously these two entities know each other! My question(s) are:

1) should I have any reason to be suspicious?
2) does or should the dealership guarantee the inspection.
3) what would my rights be if I purchased the car with a clean PPI, then finding problems after I take possesion?
4) am I paranoid?

The people I'm negotiating with seem honest, and I actually contacted the dealership and spoke with the Porsche dept. and siad the car looks great, incidentally they are doing the wiring harness recall as well.

I guess my main concern is that these two entities could be in cahoots (spelling??)

Can't help much about that particular dealership, but one word of caution:

I have seen PPI reports from dealerships that seem somewhat incomplete. Will they do a compression test? Leakdown? Will they "strip" the car to look for repaint or hidden damage (hidden from great repaints)? With so many great resources on this board, I would consider getting an independ. mech. to look at the car. If you are paying for it, why not pay for peace of mind. If you are even one bit concerned about the co's being in cahoots, you will always regret it. This also gives you the opportunity to introduce yourself to your new mechanic once you purchase a car.

Good luck.

Thx for the insight Mark, my main problem is that my mechanic of 13 years live in Ohio as do I. Should I may be look for P-car closer to home? Unfortunately there isn't much to choose from up here.

I just want to be sure my $$$ isn't thrown away on a car that isn't as described.

Thumbs up

I was at Braman on Okeechobee about four weeks ago. It is a first class W. Palm Beach Porsche hi line dealer.
I was there looking for a 993 they allegedly had. However, upon arrival, all they had were GT-2's, lots of new turbos, and a wild assortment of 996 colors...but no 993. But they sure have some really exotic Stuttgart iron sitting in their showroom!
Did you find your car at the new Toy Store- the Lincoln Mercury dealer just east of Braman?

For what it's worth, Braman is a well respected dealership in West Palm environ and they deal with serious clientele. I found them to be pretty straight. I would have bought from Braman if they had the vehicle I was seeking.
In short, dealers may know each other, but I do not feel in this case that there would be any skullduggery going on. Braman should give you the straight scoop on your wheels and would not risk their reputation on a falsified PIP.
Best of luck.

Hi Skytop, the car is actually at Automotive Experts of Palm Beach, apparently about 5 miles up the road.

Hopefully Mark is right and somebody will respond on the independant side of things. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I hope you made it clear to Braman that the car will move to Ohio... This way they know they are not going to see your business for repairs...

I do not know what to tell you about Braman, they are a chain of dealerships is SF which I did not have rosy experiences with. The company I work for is in Miami and a couple of times I was assigned to do a couple of projects in the home office. When that happened I had my 968 which I took to them at their store in Miami on Biscayne Blvd because one of the headlights did not work.
They insisted on changing the whole motor which i found extremely strange because the car at that time had 10000 miles on so it was virtually brand new...As it was proven later the motor was fine, a 2 dollars plastic part was broken only...
About 3 years ago I was interested in a 993 Targa they had for sale at a very reasonable price.. Upon researching the car I fond out it was a theft recovery put back together... when i confronted them they said calmly that I should have realized this because of the price...
Finally I was looking for a Bra for the 968, they said that they had this part at their Palm Beach store , i drove 80 miles only to find out that they made a mistake and thought that they had it...The one they had was for a 986..
So for me they are not the dealer that I would look to purchase or service my car...When it comes to a PPI they may do an Ok job like any other dealer...

I'm sorry I cannot help you with a name of an independant in SF as I'm not aware of one...

Red face

Thx for the insight DJF1!!

I guess if I can find an independent to check the car out in Florida I will feel more comfortable. Again I would be willing to pay somebody for their time!!!!

A few hindred bucks is a small price to pay for piece of mind.

Thanks again DJF1. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Greg, I'm looking at a 95 w/37k for 35k, the car looks great and the PPI (Braman Porsche) also say the car looks great. The price is right for me, again I'm just trying to find an independent to double check it for me. The 96 is a little out of my $$$$$$ range.

Thx for the heads up though!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
