Are these all standard production vehicles?
What's a Yamaha motorbike (I assume) doing in there?

I guess that Renault Espace is the one they built with the F1 engine, saw it do some laps during the French GP weekend some years back, it was painfully loud from trackside (even with earplugs) - much louder than the F1 cars.

The OX99 was Yamaha's aborted effort at a supercar, back when just about every back street garage and auto manufacturer seemed to reckon they needed a group C style road car.

The Espace F1 was amazing... Back when Renault was an engine supplier for Williams (istead of a full fledged F1 constructor like now), they took an espace Minivan and grafted the back end of their Williams F1 car to go along with a slightly detuned F1 engine !

They used it on Paul Ricard mostly (now F1s test circuit in the south of France), to give Journalists rides... that was before the 3 seater F1s... It was a hoot to watch ! A minivan with near F1 acceleration ! And handling too !

Hey Kim-

Actually, my comment was directed to the original post......Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I was trying to say is, I don't care if my 993 isn't the fastest, third fastest, or whatever.

Take Care

IMHO 0-60 times are worthless, a true test of a cars acceleration is 1/4 mile time and trap speed.

I agree with Zamirz... If you want to measure useable horsepower, look at the 1/4 mile trap speed. 0 -> 60 times and even 1/4 mile ETs are more a function of traction, driver skill, and how much you are willing to abuse your car. Still... there are some impressive numbers up there.

I had no idea there was such trouble. I thought they had a good name.

Out of curiousity, Kim, what kind of problems are occurring?

The list is a comparison of apples to oranges.
Most of the top contenders are not factory stock
production cars. ( Although, a few of the P-cars are stock)
The comparison is really a measure of after market tuners
and their financing. They have either modified a stock
engine/tranny or completely redesigned it specifically to provide
a glorious moment of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times to be recorded and
documented. Contrary to what some believe, an after market
increase in turbo boost and/or increased engine displacement
does not prove that one car make is "superior" to another.

If someone put a performance engine in a Yugo would credit
be given even if it outperformed all the super cars?
Would anyone think a modified Yugo could be "Cool"?
Would it still truly be a genuine and authentic Yugo?
The fact is, the Yugo would never receive any recognition
regardless of its modified performance. Yet it's light weight and
could beat everything on the list with the enough modifications.
The ranking order is biased towards "faster is better", so the
modified Yogu would be the fastest and therefore "coolest" in the rank.
It is lighter than the Corvette, so there's no argument.

Many small sized tuners have street cars that even outperform
the well known tuners. I recall seeing an old Honda civic that scored
7 second 1/4 mile time, but it wasn't build by a popular or well
known tuner. The car and tuner just didn't make the "cool" list.
Although, if they put their efforts into a Ferrari, it would be
well documented, and Ferrari would therefore be ranked as "most cool".

The attached image clearly demonstrates that P-cars are superior:

Yep, it's a shame magazines don't test 0-100 as a matter of course, I assume they'd get in trouble if they did?!

Ref 993RS: Performance Car (Oct '95) managed 0-60 in 4.6, 0-100 in 11.1
