PK-- I have not had the time or the guts to take my car in for the recall, yet. I am trying to decide which dealer to take it to. Have you taken your car in yet?
Anyhow, back to your question, I have heard both a partial engine drop is needed and no drop what so ever. I guess it depends on the tech doing the job and how they have done it before.

Carlsen did this job for me last week. Two stage process: first check that the harness does need changing and that the vehicle qualifies for the work ( having a recall notice for the vehicle in question eliminates any uncertainty ); second , order the parts and install. Job takes around 4 hours ( no engine out ) and since the alternator has to be removed it's also an opportunity to check whether pulley/belt wear demands that update ( which would be on your dime ) and could be done at the same time.

Same design, newer construction date with updated materials.

Good luck on your harness job, i bit the bullet and took mine into a local dealer (didnt want to). I now have to wait two weeks for them to fix issues which wernt issues when the car went in (that dealer talent they seem to have)

Chris-- I took mine to Circle Imports in Long Beach. Hopefully,I'll get it back tomorrow...
I'll let you guys know how'd it go. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed on this one.
PS. Why do we have such poor dealer choices here in SoCal?
Iruss-- I took it to a dealer only because it's a factory recall...otherwise I'd have a local trustworthy independent perform the service. Dealers always tell you there's something wrong with the car especially if it's out of the warranty period.
Good Luck to everyone with this W301 Recall...

Which dealer within 50 miles of Worcester, Ma has performed best with the wiring harness recall? I have spoken to Pass and Weiz in Burlington - but I have no personal experience with any dealer in New England.
Thanks, Dave

Interesting; mine said it would take a good day and probably two for my '95!!! I don't think they've done one yet, so I think I'm the guinea pig.
Just got a call that the harness is in (took about two weeks to order). Now, to try to pick a day when it won't be like the middle of winter (cold is OK but don't feel like driving to a dealer thru a blizzard!)

Dropped mine off yesterday and it's supposed to be ready today. Got a new Boxster as a loaner...fun little car but not a 993. Great brakes though which tells me I'd better have a look at mine when I get the car back. <img src="graemlins/offtopic.gif" border="0" alt="[offtopic]" />
I think it is more of dealer scheduling problem than obtaining the part. I ordered one of the new harnesses to look at and received it the next day. At a price considerably less than the 5 we received and replaced previously at owner's expense.

PK--thats is a good question why there are not more Porsche dealers in socal. They all seem to located on the edges of Orange County, nothing in the middle.
I guess the bigger question is why do ALL of us fear taking our cars to the dealer for work? The dealer is supposed to be the BEST place to take your car since they are the closest thing to the factory!
Let me know how it goes. Did they give a loaner?
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
In case you missed my post, I took mine to McKenna in Norwalk and it was done the next day. Took them 4.5 hrs. The car runs fine. No loan car as other dealers that I called since it's a recall.
