I don't think so. You would have to do a dual and shove it in the fenders like the 996TT but I don't see how there would be room in the 993TT.

I suggest you open the hood/trunk of the TT and take a look. I know that a standard 993 engine lid with a moveable spoiler, will not clear the intake air snorket that is standard on the 993TT.

At sears point and at California Speedway this year I saw a 993 Ruf turbo which did not have the intercoolers under the rear lid. It did have a big wing but that was for downforce. The intercoolers (2) were mounted in the fender taking air in from each side. It was quite nicely done as you could actually see the entire engine in the compartment. Nice, cool fresh air as well. Very fast car especially at the California speedway with the long straights!

The only 'stealth' turbo 993 I am aware of was one that RUF made for a member of the Porsche family. They hid the intercoolers in the fenders of a widebody.

I emailed RUF to inquire about doing one of those stealth conversions to my 993 if I purchased a BTR conversion in the U.S., but was told they only do that type of custom work in the actual RUF shop. I was concerned about cooling efficiency for track use, but once I learned the conversion required shipping my car to Germany I stopped my inquiry.

So to answer your question -- yes, it is possible to get a turbo 993 with no tail. But with the standard RUF BTR conversion running around $30K before you even touch the custom plumbing needed, its going to be rather pricey.

So, if RUF can do it, I guess its possible that the factory did make a tail-less turbo under its 'special wishes' program, but I think its doubtful.

I've never been a big fan of the 993TT stock tail either. The idea of a stealth turbo really appeals to me. It would also allow one to add the stock 993NA spoiler. I've always thought waving to fellow drivers was the ultimate "hello"
I'm really curious - how hard can it be? Re-locate two intercoolers add some fans, some extra plumbing....

PEACE,

Eric

The 993TT needs the stock tail to force air into the intercooler. Without the proper tail, the intercooler wouldn't be efficient at all. The intercooler needs air flowing through it to work.

To the one that originally inquired about this; as said before, go out and look at a stock 993TT. Look inside the engine compartment and you will see instantly what we are all talking about.

FYI…. I changed to a Turbo "S" tail on my previous 993TT and saw an immediate improvement in the charge air temp. The Turbo "S" tail forces more air through the intercooler.

It would be VERY expensive to try to fit two intercoolers in the fender panels on a 993TT. I believe your friend is very wrong about seeing a new 993TT without the stock tail or the turbo "S" tail being sold by Porsche.

I also don't like the looks of the 993 tail. The only place I've seen a non-tail turbo was at the Gambella shop in Germany. It was verrrrrry expensive (intercoolers in the fenders as mentioned here on RUF) and they said it could not be used on track, except for very short durations because the set up was not as efficient as the spoiler.

BTW, on the same day I saw them unwrapping a street GT1 for a customer who lived in Singapore. He wanted a car to keep in Germany to drive the autobahns when he visited. Must be nice!

Cool

I've seen the car that Dr. Garchow is referring to at the 2001 Milwaukie Porsche Parade as did my cousin. It was an arctic silver/black 993tt and the owner had documentation that it was specially ordered from the factory with the tail delete. I am not sure how it was done as I gave it a quick glance over, but it was a tt.

Through the wishes program anything was possible. As long as the digits would cash on the check they could and will do anything. That in mind Porsche has vast knowledge in liquid to air intercoolers and in all reality some of the compact units are not that expensive. Who knows how much through Porsche though. If you look at the needed surface area to equal that of the standard intercooler from the TT and take into the consideration the drop from water exchange in temperature then apply that to the overall size the intercoolers would be quiet small. Anything is possible.
