One topic here is the used car market and the limited supply, and I’m honestly surprised by some of the prices you see: a 991 Coupe with very few options for $120,000, a 991 GTS for $140,000 — pretty crazy.
So I took a look at what you actually get for $120–140k, and the selection is very interesting.
A 930 Turbo, plenty of 997s, even a 991 Turbo Cabriolet, 991.2 Carrera and Carrera S models, and even a few 992s…
So here’s my question to you all: if you were looking right now and had to decide immediately, what would you buy (between $120–140k), and why?
It’s a tough choice, but my pick would be a 991 Turbo S Cabriolet with low mileage.
Why: I like it more than a 992 (looks, screens), the Turbo S comes with a lot of equipment that would otherwise cost extra, depreciation is probably mostly behind it, Cabriolet because I love driving with the top down and there are no real downsides for me (garage and hardly any track use), and low mileage so the more expensive repairs come later.
Big fan of Burmester — the sound is insane! 😄
992 C2S and you have some money leftover to upgrade it into a beast
Probably will have to be an early 992 MY as the 23-24s I have seen via the Porsche finder are priced well above that, especially when equipped with a manual.
Which 911 would you describe as 'not a sports car but a grand tourer'?
I get this for a Panamera or Taycan, but for 911 or Cayman/Boxster?
All 991 and 992 Turbo/S as well as 992 base and S.
The 991 and 992 Turbos are the most insulated, boring 911s Porsche makes.
The 922 larger cabin and softer, more luxurious nature (suspension/interior) of the base and S feel more GT to me compared to the T and GTS.
YMMV
Here's my take on a "GT" 911: Likely a "4," with sunroof, 14/18 ways and full leather. Probably no exhaust or sport pack. Full ADAS suite.
Nothing wrong with it at all. But definitely more focused on comfort and security rather than performance.

Perception is a funny thing: a slower car is perceived as sportier because it misses back seats and noise insulation
The T (=Touring) is a nice car, but if you want sporty and noisier and more basic, why not a Cayman?
But you are not wrong, the 'sportiest' car I ever had was a Miata, it felt a lot sportier than a 911: raw, simple, loud, close to the ground, pure
