Default Door handle question

Since these door handles are always in the tucked in position, I sometimes end up needing to grab something from the car but without the key so I just pull it open. Is this potentially damaging to the door handle mechanism? Or is there some way to keep it out in the garage?

I’ve been often opening the “folded” handles on 992.1 for 5.5 years and continue to do so on my 992.2 with no ill effect. It doesn’t feel as nice- but I don’t think it is doing any damage/wear.

That's perfect, glad to hear. You're def right though it doesn't "feel" great.

I find the 992 door handles a major regression compared to previous models from a ‘human factors’ perspective. While I’m sure it was done for aerodynamics, to the me the benefit in no way worth the cost of complexity or convenience. Just look at the type of questions the poor design generates like this thread: “Is it ok to use a door handle as a door handle?” lol.

No doubt it was done for the improvement of aerodynamics-probably knocked off half second of zero to sixty.

(only kidding as the real improvement probably is very minute and really not worth the hassle on anything less than a GT3 used for the track).

Interestingly enough, the GT3 RS keeps the older style grab bar door handles and that car is all about aero.

I remember watching a Porsche video where they described the rationale behind the door handles and the measured decrease in drag (…supported by wind tunnel testing at Weissach).
