Cabriolet or coupe
Cabriolet. Adding to the poll and many comments, as I personally experienced, a Cabriolet is far more practical for a family with young children compared to a Targa. Getting them in and out of the back seat is a breeze. For that very reason, the Targa is out of the question for me.
That said, if I had to choose today I would choose the Cab again - the joy of driving the car with the top down offsets the looks and the inherent trade-offs associated with a convertible.
Chiming in again to say there is nothing better than cruising in my cab on a brisk 40 degree sunny day with the top down, windows and wind deflector up and heat on in the footwells. Just awesome. My rule is, if it's sunny, top down to 40 degrees. In the summer, top down unless it's well over 90.
Not just coupe...coupe with NO sunroof. I don't need the wind in my face or the sun on my receding hairline and 1/2' long buzzcut...but If I woke up tomorrow wanting that, I'd get the nice-looking Porsche droptop: A Boxster GTS 4.0 or a Spyder.
I see a lot people make this statement, but as someone that owned a boxster (which got me hooked on the top down experience), I think the boxster looks worse with the top up by a mile. I think the 911 is much better looking both top up and top down. I also didn’t love the slightly claustrophobic feeling in the boxster… if I had something as simple as a sun shade folded in the front seat and a passenger coming with me, I had to get out and put it in the trunk… I prefer having back seats for space/storage, and occasionally taking the kids for a drive.
