I was making the same decision in 2020 and I also live in CA (southern). While I like the lines of the coupe better, I felt that if I don’t get the cab and enjoy the southern Cali weather, I will regret it. After 4 years, I still enjoy every min of it when the top is down. Especially at night, the joy of riding it is incredible.
I drive a coupe and my wife drives a cab. Best of both worlds but if I would only have one it would be the cab.
Same here, although if I had to have just one I’d prefer a coupe.
The 992 is a great convertible; top and wind deflector are so quick and easy to deploy and make it so easy to control wind. Although it is noisy even with the top up.

I see it the other way…I think it has a bit of Speedster look.
Coupe with no sunroof is my preference. The opening for the sunroof on a 992 is tiny anyways so I do not see much point, especially in addition to the weight added up top.
First: I never could see the value in cutting off the roof of an otherwise perfectly good sports car.
Second: When I’ve had cabriolets (356’s) in retrospect, I rarely ever actually put the top down. To hot, to cold, one more thing to fiddle with every time you park it.
Very much a personal preference and, perhaps, related to your climate. I am currently on my 5th Cab (2024 992.1 S/manual), they are solid, steel and have glass rear window. I agree, the lines are not quite as nice as the coupe, but, in my personal opinion, the pleasure of driving with the top down makes up for it many times over.
I’d say it’s 100% personal preference and how you drive your car. I’ve always been a cab guy, all the way back to my first car (1958 MGA Roadster). I absolutely love the lines of my ‘23 Turbo S Cab top up or down. I’ll put the top down in anything above 50 degrees, which means I get to hear all of the glorious exhaust rumble with the PSE + Soul sport cats
I wanted the top down experience but also was not in love with the lines of the Cab. Targa fit the bill for me. There are sacrifices and benefits with each one. It becomes a very individual choice as to which benefits you value most and which sacrifices will bother you more.
I used to be a coupe guy until I drove a cabriolet. I can never go back to a coupe now. There is something truly special about driving a cabriolet with the top down. The wind in your hair and the sounds coming from the flat six engine add to the experience. Modern 911s have such a solid top design that there’s really no compromise with a cabriolet.. My 991 cabriolet is quieter inside with the top up than my coupe from a previous generation. That said, I put the top down for 90% of my drives in the 911. I agree that the coupe looks better when compared to a cabriolet with the top up, but when the top is down the cabriolet looks every bit as good. I think a cabriolet is the way to go for a street/road car (as opposed to a track car).
Don’t let anyone tell you that a cabriolet isn’t a real 911, isn’t the true shape of a 911, etc. Below is a photo that I took at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart of the car that Porsche calls “Number One”. As you can see, open top motoring has always been part of the Porsche lineage.
Cab with top down looks just as good as the coupe. Cab with top up maybe not so great.
But that didn’t matter, I drove my 992 with top down 90% of the time as well. It was even more enjoyable when I had my valveless Soul Performance sport cats and exhaust. The car sounded so loud on full throttle and I soaked up those sounds with every drive
