Default Going from 991 to 992

Hey everyone, was just coming on here to see who has gone from a 991 to a 992 recently and what your experience has been. how different is the car comparatively? I'm early awaiting my 992 delivery!

The steering is more filtered. The interior is 100x better. It's much wider depending on what you're going from and to. What year and trim/spec of 991 and 992 are we talking about?

My sales advisor told me when I dropped off my 991 that I was going to really prefer the 992. I just thought it was sales speak but in my experience, he was absolutely right. Yes, the car is bigger, but there’s something more complete about it to me. The 992 looks obviously worked better for me as well however, I miss the analog instrumentation terribly!

I'm comparing 991.2T to 992T so your results may vary. I find the 992 to be less raw, and more grand tourer-ish than the smaller 991. I believe the 992 is faster, but the 991.2 felt faster if that makes sense.

I’m going from 991.2 S to 992.1 T. Haven’t taken delivery but looking at showroom models confirms better interior. Also seems larger.

I'm in the opposite camp. Went from a 2019 991.2 Carrera GTS to a 2024 992 Carrera GTS. - both manuals. Big disappointment to me. The 992 was much more expensive, felt bigger all around, was no faster or better handling, had some annoying details like the steering wheel obscuring 2 dials, annoying door handles, cumbersome homelink, seat back release straps that keep breaking, and more. My sense of the 992 was that most of the changes were superficial and marketing oriented.
Wish I could have my 991.2 back.

My story goes a long way back, but ill keep it to modern stuff.
Went from 997.1 C4S manual to 991.1 C4S PDK. My impression initially was the newer car did everything an enth better. A little better comfort on interior and a lot better interior finish, and little better speed, and a little better ride. PDK was first auto P-car so was a little apprehensive, but wow! Where have i been? PDK is awesome! Especially on track. Last time on track i was in a 993 manual. Wow! The world has come so far. Lol.
Now recently moved to 992.1 GTS RWD. Another marked improvement. Honestly the interior size reminds me more of 997 size-wise but it's reached another level in comfort and appearance. For exterior size comparison i will say my 991.1 wider body car cover fits pretty well so i assume the exterior dimensions are close.
When the 992 first came out i couldn't even stand to look at the interior, but now i am sold. All of the Black shiny center console is not as horrible as i first imagined. It actually blends and becomes a non-issue in realty. I sure don't miss the sticky buttons in my 997 ! The ride is a bit more harsh but that is down to GTS model i think. Flat as a pancake in corners. Predictable. Better performance, obviously. This time i wanted PDK, and im glad, as this one is even better than the last. Motor sound is fine. I grew up around V8 race cars with no exhaust so nothing really measures up to that for me. Sound under hard acceleration is great.
The million dollar question for me is do i ever look back and think i should have kept the 991? Nope. Loved that car, and it had everything i wanted, and was a great car, and fun on track. The 992 i cannot wait to get the cover off and go! Cannot wait to get it on track, too! Turbo brakes and suspension on GTS make it kinda special to be honest. I've never had a Turbo, but i can see why people love 'em and i can see why there are so many high-mile examples. You can actually drive this suspension! I am not super techy but this new one is a little better in that regard, too, and i keep an analogue tach!
992 all the way!

I use my 911s as my DD's. I had the 991.1 Coupe and 991.2 Targa, as well as the 992 Coupe and 2 992 Targas. Depending on your usage - if you are Daily Driving them, the 992 is better hands down, more tech, comfort, etc.

If this is a weekend car for fun, drive outs, canyon carving, etc. I do not think I would trade.

My GT3 Touring is a 991.2, it is more a fun collectors car. I am perfectly happy with it over the 992 touring (both are great cars BTW) - but I do not need more modern interior, tech, etc. of the 992 touring, as I do not do anything but fun driving in it. No long trips, no need for the newest tech. More analog feel, etc. Also the power is still awesome (in both the 991 (your car) and the 992 - so while the power bump is great, honestly you can get much faster cars, more HP, etc. for much less than a 911 if a lot faster is the itch you are trying to scratch.

So to answer directly - depends on what you are doing with your 911. :-)

I think the 991 interior is 100x better than the 992. To each their own.

Absolutely. Some people think M4s look better than 911s.

I prefer the looks of the M3 over the M4. If you go from 991 to 992, enjoy it. I love all 911s.👍

I had a 991.2 C4 cab I really liked. Dealer kept emailing during COVID and I finally broke down and traded it for a 992.1 C4S cab order (only got the S to get a MT - the 991 base power level was fine for me). I basically got what I paid for it on trade after 2.5 years and 7500 miles. This year I traded that on a "surprise" allocation for a Targa 4S (had a '17 Targa 4S and keep changing my mind cab v Targa). I didn't do "as well" but breaking even on the 991 is the closest I've ever come to "making money" on a car.

Overall, I would have been happy to still have the 991.2 C4 cab. Don't "regret" the newer cars but the improvements (to me) have not been transformative. The Targa has the Exclusive Manufaktur interior, which is very nice. But at + $12K or so probably not fair to compare it to the black leather interior the 991 had. Don't like piano black at all.

Things that are better in 992:
1. Wireless Apple car play and
2. Surround cams.

Things that were (absolutely) better in the 991s -
1. PCM screen allowed you to scroll radio favorites from steering wheel. It was IDIOTIC they removed that feature and I still can't understand why that isn't available on the 992s. I keep hoping for a software update but doubt it will ever happen. That way you could keep WAZE on the big screen and still see channels (and change them) in the dash/steering wheel.
2. Lane change assist was 3 horizontal red bars in the A pillars that you could easily see while looking straight ahead down the road. The design was perfect. The little yellow lights in the side mirrors are an epic fail by comparison. That evolution would only make sense in reverse order.
3. It felt "smaller" to drive. But I'm OK in a way as I view the Targa 4S as strictly a grand tourer at this point anyhow.

Coming from a 991.1, the 992 feels twice as fast, more nimble, prettier & IMHO the interior is more ergonomic. Hitting the sport or suspension buttons on the center console whilst driving was a bit awkward on the 991.1. I feel the 992 is an improvement in that regard.
