My 991.2 C2S is the only car I’ve ever regretted getting rid of. I enjoy the 992 but I do miss my 2017.

You may have answered this before but do you wish you hadn't gotten the 992T and kept the 991 instead?

Based on everyone's feedback, two things seem obvious:
- everyone has different priorities and likings and thus different preferences for older vs. newer models; case in hand, the more 'GT' nature of the 992: some people prefer that, others don't
- each new Porsche generation gets a little 'better' than the previous one (according to Porsche's own criteria of course); it's the relentless march of progress...

I think the difference between each successive generation is objectively small and most people would be ok with either one. But keeping the subjectivity out is impossible. That's what makes it great to get everyone's feedback. I really enjoy this forum It really adds to my experience with my 911.

Both are great - I slightly prefer 991 overall (lots of pros and cons) but it’s personal preference. No wrong answer.

- Current 991, 992, 997 and 993 owner

The 992 is an improvement over the 991 in every category except two: exhaust sound and aesthetics of PDK shifter/selector (irrelevant if you have MT).

I forgot about this aspect since mine is 7MT but I did rent a 992 automatic before I bought mine and I have to agree. The new shifter not having +/- on it is a travesty.

Good point, Var. Aesthetics aside, the inability to use the 992 PDK selector to +/- in a hairpin or otherwise is a functional step backward. You can improve exhaust sound with aftermarket mods. Nothing you can do about the 992 PDK selector.

2017.911 base with APR pse sport chrono
2020 C2S with pse sport chrono

The 992 is high spec... with Bourdeax black interior and it is very nice, the 991.2 was basic, for my use case i like how special the 992 looks and feels, it feels more like an event.. i like the design of interior more,
Test driving a 991.2 Turbo then getting in a 992 C2s i felt the older car seemed dated in a number of ways... sound deadening ride quality road noise interior quality... as they say YMMV.

Having spent more time in both generations than the average bear, I think that the touch points in the 991.2 feel nicer than the 992. Plus, there's no piano black to be found anywhere.

While similar in dimensions, the 991 cars just feel smaller. I regressed from a 992 to a 991.2 and regret nothing.

I have no negative feelings with regards to the 992 gear selector. The "Braun" thing was tired/overdone in 2019 and it's even more tired in 2024. If you dislike it that much, learn to drive stick.

Blocked gauges? That's just proper heritage.

Sold 991.1 C2S manual in spring and just picked up new 992.1 C2S manual. Have less than 100 miles
on the new one as I’m awaiting PPF so not very familiar with the platform yet.

The most obvious differences are 1) manual transmission, which is a substantial improvement over 991.1 and worth every penny, 2) interior quality and seats (I disliked the 14ways in the old car, love the 4ways) and 3) handling & power…big improvement.

you have to remember that Porsche is always 10 years behind on interior design. So while they did transition to piano black, which is pretty much played out now, at least they got rid of that fake metal paint they had everywhere on the 997 and the 991. They also got rid of those terrible buttons on the center console and move them up to the dashboard, which is a huge improvement. You can rest your palm on the shifter and touch all of those buttons with your finger without taking your eyes off the road

So yeah, the materials aren’t the greatest but in my opinion are an improvement. But the interior design language is better than every 911 with an actual interior. Meaning 993 and on. The only thing I don’t like is that the window switches are a little far back on the Door card.

Agree with you on the “blocked gauges” complaints. When I need to give full attention to driving, I only care about rpm and oil temp and psi. I can see those 100% of the time. When not giving full attention to driving, I can adjust to see gas gauge, etc. - no big deal.

Well, the young girl who lives next door is very sweet but quite unattractive. She was unattractive in 2019. She is unattractive today. Ugly usually does not get better with time. I don’t mind the Braun, per se. I also don’t mind a splash of piano black. But, the dimunitive selector set in a field of piano black is just unattractive. It is the combined center console design that is terrible and one of the reasons I chose a MT…..though I enjoyed the PDK in my 991.

Thats amazing to hear. I had a 2017 Turbo which I traded in for a 23 Turbo, I have heard very similar things but that the 23 will feel like a space ship compared to the 991 interior. Currently waiting on the dealer to take care of a few maintenance checklist items so it can be transported to the eastern shore.
