Default Steering wheel hub wiring help!

Guys this is a crap first post, but I just bought my 992 gt3 in March and bought some gt3rs magnesium paddles and decided today that I should install them. Well I just removed the steering wheel and the plastic clip behind the wheel came with it exposing the hub wiring which is full of lithium grease.

anyone have any idea how to re-assemble this? I’ve tried for about an hour to figure out how this all works, but am completely lost

thanks so much!

Ok, got all the wires back in place I think. I might have one issue that im terrified of.

there are two white flat sets of wires. And then one clear. The white wires have connectors at the end. The clear seems to have nothing but 2 holes and a latch and then it seems like there is a connection, but I have no idea where that goes, it doesn’t seem to fit anywhere.. is it just there to guide the other wires?

I don’t want to reconnect the battery until I get an idea.

From the photo above, you definitely didn't rewind them correctly - when correctly wound, it should look like this one - this is modified GT3 version, but you should have 4 loops like in this photo.

not quite the same as yours, as this is rewound with the heater wiring in place of the dummy (clear) loops - but it should look just like this when wound correctly

Hello, I have the same problem. Got an alcantara steering wheel for my 992 turbo S and thought I’d change it myself. Everything was ok until I pulled the old steering wheel and the black cap came out with it. I tried to rewind the white cables myself but it keeps showing errors on the dashboard when I reconnect the battery. Dealer says its between 8-10 weeks to get a new part.
Were you able to reconnect everything correctly without getting errors in the dash?

Thank you!

Ouch. Have to make sure the yellow connector is fully disconnected. There are enough pictures of the clock spring on RL that you should be able to reassemble it if you didn’t damage it.

I feel your pain. My son was installing a leather cover on granddaughter's Macan (original leather was in bad shape). I had experience doing this and suggested it would be easier with the wheel off the car. There's a fastener in there (he missed it) that if not removed results in the spaghetti in your photo. The ribbon wire allows the various buttons on the wheel to work throughout the range of wheel travel. His first try to properly rewind the ribbon cable got functionality of buttons, but the wheel wouldn't turn properly. Second try killed the buttons. Off to the dealer.

A friend of mine owns a small garage. Mainly works on trucks and taxis. I sent him the picture and told me it doesnt matter if its a Million dollar 918 spyder or a 15,000 corolla, the clock spring system works the same pretty much for every car that has controls on the steering wheel.
He came over to my place and took him 20 minutes at most to rearrange the cables in the clockspring and reconnecting everything. No errors on the dash and every button and both paddle shifters work perfectly.

Dealer said I had to change the whole steering wheel column and it would take between 6-8 weeks to get it.
