Default How to reduce brake dust?

My 992 S with iron brakes generates sooo much more brake dust than any other vehicle I’ve had. With black wheels, a 10 mile trip and the wheels are coated in dust. Wheels are already ceramic coated. I’m considering switching pads if there are options that make a noticeable change. Anyone have experience or pad recommendations? I don’t track my car, so I am willing to make minor performance sacrifices if it actually makes a significant difference in the dust.

Following. I think there have been recommendations on ceramic brake pads around here but not sure how effective they are in terms of reducing brake dust

I don't think anyone is making ceramic pads for the 992 S, too much performance compromise. The only real answer is to switch to PCCB brakes, which are 90% dust free. But that's a costly retrofit.

Don’t mean to be argumentative, and am simply sharing how I think about brakes on the street.

This line of reasoning breaks my mental model of having the best braking performance on the street, for the once in a while that you need them. And at that moment, everytime, I’ve been thankful for every feet of braking distance that I can cut. And, I, for one, will take some extra brake dust for shorter braking distances.

The easiest / best way to reduce brake dust also has the added benefit of extending the component life.

Instead of applying pressure to the brake pedal, use the large clear sheet of glass, strategically placed in front of the driver’s seat, to observe traffic conditions. Armed with that information process the available data and modulate (decrease) pressure applied to the gas pedal.

My experience with using these techniques I attain well over 100K miles on a set of brakes, with a corresponding very low build up of brake dust on the wheels.

I mean I’m willing to accept some degradation in the context of ultra-high heat handling which you encounter on a track but not the street, I wouldn’t expect any pads I’m considering to lead to a significant distance increase in emergency stop conditions, but if that is someone’s experience I’d like to hear about it.

These are the pads I’ve had my eye on: https://flat6motorsports.com/product...44677779652910 but looking for people that have tried them.

I never understood the concerns about brake dust in a performance vehicle. Is it not purely cosmetic? Clean your wheels or ignore it, you can't see it when you drive the car and it doesn't affect performance. Sounds like a prima donna concern.

yep, purely cosmetic. I do clean my wheels, and they are dirty in 10 miles. Yes, I'm a prima donna. Thank you for your useful contribution to this thread.

Hahaha. Ah rennlist.

Theyre coated. How easy does the dust come off with a hose? Sorry to say but your only option is to rinse off after every ride if you're that **** about it.

You will definitely get longer stop distances with a ceramic pad like EBC Red Stuff. They will increase your stopping distance in an emergency anti-lock full on stop on the order of 8 to 10%. So a 150 foot panic stop in factory brakes will be 160 to 165 feet with ceramics. And the initial bite will be less abrupt.

i put EBC Reds on my wife’s Audi SQ5 when she complained constantly about brake dust. They dramatically reduced the dirty wheels so she was happy with that, but even she commented to me the vehicle didn’t stop as well.

I found them unacceptable to my style of driving in the Audi, but she was willing to put up with them so they stayed on the car until she got her Macan S. She did not want them in her Macan.

Thanks for the legit experience. Given EBCs claim of reduction of dust by 60-90% AND stopping 13m shorter from 100mph, I wasn’t seeing any downsides other than the cost. Good to know there are some real world compromises.
