There is a small subset of people who actually want EVs, most others don't want them....this is why governments are making mandates and other laws that make it very hard to make ICE cars. If EVs were so great there would be no need for mandates and incentives.

I didn’t watch the debate. When a neighbor asked if we would be watching..I said no, because we (my wife and I) already know the policies and character of each candidate. No debate will change that.
But i agree, can’t wait for politics to take a back seat to news about things that matter.

It will be a number of years before mandates take effect (if that actually happens)….since “mandates” keep getting kicked down the road.
But to paraphrase you, if seatbelts are “so great”, there would have been no federal mandate to install them on cars. Yet, despite their unpopularity, in 1968, the federal government REQUIRED all new cars be equipped with seatbelts. Yet, nearly 2 decades later, only 58% of Americans used, or wanted seatbelts.
Sometimes, stupidity is hard to kill.

China (and Putin) are just laughing at how far we’ve fallen as a country.
