Default Aftermarket springs for Targa 4 GTS (newbie question)

Hi all,

I'm a new member, first time porsche owner, and proud new owner of a Targa 4 GTS (Porsche Design 50th Anniversary Edition). I apologize in advance if this is a noob question, but in any case:

Last year I had a long term 992 C2S Cabriolet rental (lowered 10mm) and fell in love with it! So after a year of deliberation and research I picked up a gently used Targa GTS. While the car drives absolutely beautifully and is surprisingly comfortable, I realized that for my driving preference I prefer something that's slightly stiffer with a "weightier" steering feel. I'm assuming the slight difference I feel between the Targa and C2S Cab has more to do with my particular spec not having the 10mm lowered factory option as opposed to it being a targa (although if I'm wrong, please correct me). So with that in mind, I'm wondering which brand/type of aftermarket springs you suggest that'd best capture the driving characteristics of C2S cab with factory lowered springs (mainly handling, steering feel, etc)? In case its relevant, my Targa is equipped with front axle lift, rear wheel steering, pdcc, and power steering plus.
Thanks so much for your help - I'm over the moon with the car and super excited to be part of the rennlist community!

Following…I was hoping could utilize someone’s oem -10mm cabriolet springs that went even lower and have a need to dispose of some cluttering their garage?

PASM Sport suspension -10mm or SPASM was not available for the Targa from factory. Many have upgraded with KW HAS spring kit, or full coil overs to set the height and ride of their choice. Lots of threads on these kits.

You’re most likely also feeling the weight amongst the change in suspension. Targa does weigh more and your spec seems pretty high (PDCC, FAL, etc.) which adds even more weight. Getting lower springs may firm up the ride a little.

Generally, doing just springs is not the best idea as stiffening up will not match the dampeners. The right way to do it is Coilovers.

Ah didn't think about that, any particular brands you would recommend? Thanks. Also, I don't even know if this is possible, but I was wondering if the factory GTS coupe SPASM (10mm lowered) could be retrofitted to the targa.

I haven’t done a set in a very long time, others here can tell you the most popular for the 992, or call someone such as Flat Six Motorsports who are well versed in suspensions. Aftermarket will cost far less than trying to use OEM parts.

The only coilover system out that retains PASM control is the Bilstein Evo. Ohlins, JRZ, BC Racing all delete PASM control.
Other options include fixed lowering springs and height adjustable lowering springs but it’s up to you if it’s worth the trade offs.

Coilovers are always best, but they are also not cheap. In some cases, if the car is not seeing any track time, adjustable springs are an excellent option to avoid spending money on coilovers.

But if you have the budget, you are 100% correct; coilovers are the way to go.

@LJM992 do you have this button on your dash? Can’t remember if the GTS has it. PASM firmness setting. If you haven’t tried it this gives a firmer setting to stock. we have it on our Targa 4S and the suspension firmness is noticeably different between the two.

I believe PASM comes standard on the Targa GTS. PDCC is an extra option.

its the same logo but says PDCC under it. Does PDCC replace PASM?

PDCC is "Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control" a pricey option that allows the end of the sway bars to electronically disconnect for a smoother right over poor pavement and then when you press the button (will come on automatically in Sport Plus mode if yu have Sport Chrono) will connect the sway bars for flat cornering and minimal body roll.

New suggestion for you: Since the car is new, and you haven't learned the systems yet, probably best to avoid changing anything until you get used to what you have. Why not give it 6 months, play with the setting and read the owner's manual first? It's.very well engineered from the factory and changes to suspension means new alignments required, ground clearance affected, ease of entry / exit changes - all that.
