Question 992.2: Where are the Carrera manuals?!

I get that the GTS is pdk only due to the e-motor and packaging issues. But I don't see why the manual option has to be gone from the regular Carrera models. I am hoping that its just an omission from the configurator for now or that manuals are coming later, like they did for the 992.1.

It was never mentioned so I am a bit worried here... due to emissions, etc. They might make manuals a Carrera T or special models only thing only....

US configurator: https://configurator.porsche.com/en-US/model-start/911

What do y'all think? Has the emission standards taken another victim? I have not seen any mentions at all.

My 100% uneducated guess is manual will only be offered on the T (coming later), and maybe the rumoured manual turbo (which could be another Sport Classic type exclusive model).

I was told the S will not have a manual.

I'm confused. Why is this news? The Base 992.1 didn't have a a manual either.

I hope you are wrong.

I remember for the 992 launch it was the same thing, all Carrera variants were PDK-only @ launch but they clarified early on that the manual was coming. No word this time....

Porsche wants you to pay up for the new hotness then come back in 2-3 years and pay up again for a special edition manual.

Our expectations are very high for Porsche, the short premier video left a lot to be desired.

Default Manualitis

I suffer from Manualitis as well - the fear of discontinuing manuals. By definition nobody needs a sports car. It's an object of desire. And my desire is far greater when a manual transmission is offered.

I can send one of my wife shoes in to Stuttgart and for a hefty premium and significiant wait, I can have a car produced in that color. But I can't specify a manual? It's sacrilgious to the ethos the company was founded on.

But, Porsche being Porsche will no doubt continue to offer a manual on limited edition cars as was mentioned above. The only downside there is that limited edition models are no longer for Porsche "drivers" so much as they are for Porsche "investors/speculators". So the end run is that enthusiasts are left to look backward for their next 911.... (I sold my 992 GTS manual for a 2018 Carrera T manual) - no regrets.

Management is targeting a new audience. Que Sera Sera...

Are we sure there will be an "S"?

The current 992.2 has the 992.1 GTS turbos and intercoolers from the Turbo line but same drive train as the 992.1. The turbo sizing and cooling have been maxed out from off the shelf parts from cars that are higher up the chain than the current "S". The 992.2 has 388 hp.
What could a 992.2 "S" configuration offer now? The new 992.2- 3.6 with its "E" PDK and "E" turbo combo are rated at 532hp. I doubt Porsche has any plans will separate this combo for a "S" model.
Porsche is now stuck with a model gap in the $140-145k/ 450+ hp area. They can get to it with the 992.2- 3.0 base engine but can't get to with the 3.6- 992.2 GTS hybrid engine.
I'm guessing the 992.2 "S" will be a 992.2 Base Carrera 3.0 turbo with Limited slip and PASM sport, higher boost and GTS brakes plus manual trans option. Expect the hp to be slightly higher than the 992.1 "S" just like the 992.2 base Carrera.
The "T" will probably be 992.2 Carrera with standard brakes (Base), different seat options, Limited slip and PASM sport and manual trans option just like the 992.1 "T".
I'm guessing the 992.2 Carrera base, "T" and "S" will all share the same engine with the differences being engine software and boost. Different drivetrains and interiors will differentiate the models.
With tuners able to get a reliable 500hp from the 3.0 Carrera base engine with GTS turbos...I think this is how Porsche will cover this gap.
Hope I'm wrong but that's been the case lately!

Rest assured Porsche product marketing will never miss an opportunity to segment the 911... you can bet there will be an S for sure. 'Wait for it...'

Porsche, now as a public company driven more so by profit and investors, is fine targeting the newer buyer/generation. There's more money available to the younger generation now than ever before and the new generation looking at Porsche, for the large part, don't have much historical context. They are happy to look at Porsche as a lifestyle brand to say 'I have a Porsche/911'.

T will come sooner than people think. Manual, of course
