(I run Liquid Moly in mine its easy to order everything fro Pelican Parts)

You know Penske owns 3,200 dealerships, and many of them are Porsche stores. Know what oil they use? Pennzoil, in all their oil service as Penske has a relationship with Pennzoil. Far as I can tell, there are no C40 spec in any of the Pennzoil products.
My dealership does same. It uses Amalie 5W-40 full synthetic in everything (Cayenne, 992, etc.). Good oil….just incorrect spec for some Porsche engines. When I asked the Service Manager why he did not use C 30 spec oil in Cayenne or C 40 spec oil for 992, he said they buy oil in a 55 gallon barrel because it is the cheapest and they use that one brand, viscosity and spec in everything. It is how they make the greatest profit. So, it lets the accountants select the oil spec instead of the engineers/technicians.

I just spoke to the service manager at my nearest Porsche dealer.
An oil service is $389 plus tax (and probably disposal fees).
He said they're using Mobil 1 0W-40 but was not aware of the distinction between A40 and C40 spec.
I'm doubtful they're using C40 spec. I think they buy the oil in bulk and C40 is a European spec.

So the dealer doesn't use the C40? Unreal. Dealers usually get oil by the drum since they go through so much of it.

It would be good to ask. My two closest dealers are Penske stores, I asked at both when I was getting the free first service on my three Porsches. They both said the same thing, that Pennzoil is a major sponsor of Penske Racing and the boss says that's all they can use. Out of curiosity, I pulled up all the Pennzoil products I could find on the internet and didn't see any with that C40 spec. Not saying there isn't one, I just could not locate it. The dealer personnel have no idea, they buy it in 55 gallon drums, just said its syntenthic and the correct viscosity.

Well then that knocks the "C40 else your warranty is suspect" argument out of the box, since the dealers aren't even using it.

Doesn't surprise me. When administrators and desk jockeys are doing the buying they have no clue on the technical side of things. To them oil is oil. And I'd bet a good percentage of the technicians don't know either. My last Macan oil change they used the wrong oil and I had to go back for a do-over. I'd be surprised if Porsche USA doesn't intervene and put a stop to these Penske dealerships.

I took my '21 Cayman S which calls for C40 spec to dealer. They put put 5w-30 in it. Not sure they make a 5w-30 in C40 spec.

This is the exact reason I prefer to do my own oil changes, I purchase the correct C40 spec oil, new filter, drain plug and o-rings then I drain my oil, remove and replace my oil filter without dripping oil all over everything, take lots of pictures and then fill with the proper amount of the correct oil and check everything over myself. Then I log it all down in my owners manual. Makes me feel good knowing that it is done right.

My 911 engine is too important to me to be left up to the lowest paid guy in the shop.

PCNA could care less... dealers and PCNA are making money hand over fist, and 95% of customers can't even pronounce Porsche, so why change anything for a few grumpy enthusiasts? Remember Porsche is an SUV brand that happens to make a few random sports cars... why do you think ADM is 'tolerated'? As with all things... 'follow the money'.

Good video for DIY 992 oil change:

The fellow uses Liqui Moly 5W-40, C40 spec.

Here's the really easy way to order everything for your 992 oil change. The correct oil, filter, new drain plug and it all arrives at your door. This is what I do because its easy, Pelican Parts figured it all out for you. Plus you get 10% off your order order. (no affiliation, just a satisfied customer)

The only person at the dealership with less experience than the guy changing oil is the guy washing cars. Ask me how I know.

You guys that do your own oil change, 👍. Warranty on my ‘19 T ends in August and I might start doing it myself. If you do not want to do the oil change yourself, find an experienced independent mechanic. Plenty around. The shop that works on my car services as a side gig. Preparing 911s for racing is their primary business. Very experience and knowledgeable mechanics. You would not believe how quickly and easily they installed new headers, guys are good. Ditch the dealer.
