I have PCM 6 and Autel 808 works fine with it.

And no, I won't be swapping out the oil, that's absurd. From what I can tell, the C40 recommendation came about with the implementation of particulate filters on European models:

"C40 oils are used in newer vehicles and focus on diesel and GPF/DPF-oriented areas like soot and aftertreatment compatibility. C40 oils are also designed to protect against low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and emissions control devices."

Maybe I'll look for the
Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40 next time, but if it's $33/quart I'll stick with the same oil, at $26/five quarts.
I would not swap it out either but would go to back to C 40 oil at next oil change until warranty expires. I suggest you research LSPI in cars with forced air induction (turbos) before you make up your mind on A 40 v. C 40 oil. Even more of an issue with PDK. Your car …….but I buy 5W-40 premium C 40 approved oil for about $9 a liter.

Buying a Costco QJ for $1300 is a good investment. . You will save many times that amount over the years with DIY and labor cost savings.

The ESP C40 Mobil is like $11-$12 a quart at Autozone.

The Autel 906 was a lot more money ($1,500+) and I doubt I'll really need the bi-directional capability with this car anytime soon.
The 808 worked fine to reset the oil and service indicators, and it has full bi-directional control with my wife's Lexus (2004). There doesn't seem to be any other bidirectional control with this car although it does seem to have capability to read all the factory codes. And there were a bunch of codes when I tried it for the first time. At this juncture, the only code received was a U1111000 and U1121000 "no message received". Car seems to be performing flawlessly and with no MIL.
My version of the 808 also has TPMS capabilities which I haven't tried yet.
The 900 is $560, but its interesting that the 808 worked because on the diag tool thread, there was a mention that you needed the 900 for PCM6.

I have a BL5000-SLX manufactured in 2017 and purchased in 2018. I have used it without any issue on 997, 991, 992, 981, 987, Toyota Camry, Nissan Sentra and Toyota Tacoma (with the QJ lift blocks for trucks). Don’t know how much I have saved in labor costs since 2018 but I am certain the QJ has paid for itself several times over and continues to do so.

Yeah…I saw the same post on the same thread you mention and I do not think it is correct. I think that thread had several incorrect statements if my memory serves me. Just cause it is on the internet does not make it true. I paid $350 for my 808 two years ago and have reset the oil reminder on my 2022 992S with PCM 6 more than once. I am sure the 900 has more features than the 808. But my 808 works fine on my 992 and my Toyota Tacoma and wife’s Toyota Camry.

I am currently using the 808s on my 992, my wife's BMW 340i and on my 2024 Acura MDX Type S and it works fine.

I have a shallow, open top drain pan so don't even bother jacking the car up. It's a bit flimsy to pour out but works.
Here is a Porsche bulletin that lists all the approved C40 oils. I may go with a 5w40 for my first oil change, at somewhere around 1200-1500 miles on the motor, to get that “break-in oil” out.

I simply use ESCO flat top jack stands and jack pads to get the car up in the air. Takes me 8-10 mins in total, using 2 jacks.

Check the sticker near the engine. If it says 0W40, use 0W40 even though 5W40 meets the C40 spec.

It's $57 for 6 qts on amazon right now. It's what the book says to use. Could just be a hold over from the european models with the GPF. Dunno.

Exactly. Good luck getting Porsche to honor your warranty if you're not using C40 spec oil. If you're doing your own oil changes, they'll want receipts and proof of what you put in there.

Break-in oil isn't a thing on these cars. first oil change is at 10,000 miles or 1 year. dealer did my first then. i did the 2nd at 20k and the filter was perfectly clean.

Not sure I agree but uncertain because your meaning is unclear….to me anyway. What do you mean by “isn’t a thing”? Can you be more specific, please?

That's good to hear the SLX will fit the 992. I purchase my QJ in 2017 and I gaurantee it has paid for itself in that short time just changing oil in a couple C7 vettes, 4Runner, Mustang and Honda Accord. I had a 991.2, but never tried the QJ's on it.

I’m old school when it comes to oil changes, and am not a fan of long duration and mileage changes. I usually change the oil on my cars every 6 months or 4000-5000 miles. And plan to do the same with the GTS. Good point on warranty oil - should be easy to stick to 0w40 C40 oil, even though I’m not a Mobil 1 fan.
