Notes on First DIY Oil Change
#16
What year is this car, do you have PCM6 in it? Word on another thread is that for the PCM6 cars, you need the newer Autel 900 model (which replaced the 808). If you used the 808 to reset a PCM6 car, that would be an interesting observation, but I see you said your 808 did a software update, so maybe that makes the 808 work with PCM6.

Including oil and filter, it was about $1,400, or just over the cost of two dealer oil services.
And no, I won't be swapping out the oil, that's absurd. From what I can tell, the C40 recommendation came about with the implementation of particulate filters on European models:
"C40 oils are used in newer vehicles and focus on diesel and GPF/DPF-oriented areas like soot and aftertreatment compatibility. C40 oils are also designed to protect against low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and emissions control devices."
Maybe I'll look for the Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40 next time, but if it's $33/quart I'll stick with the same oil, at $26/five quarts.

Buying a Costco QJ for $1300 is a good investment. . You will save many times that amount over the years with DIY and labor cost savings.

The ESP C40 Mobil is like $11-$12 a quart at Autozone.

The car is a 2022, and it had a software update last April.
The Autel 906 was a lot more money ($1,500+) and I doubt I'll really need the bi-directional capability with this car anytime soon.
The 808 worked fine to reset the oil and service indicators, and it has full bi-directional control with my wife's Lexus (2004). There doesn't seem to be any other bidirectional control with this car although it does seem to have capability to read all the factory codes. And there were a bunch of codes when I tried it for the first time. At this juncture, the only code received was a U1111000 and U1121000 "no message received". Car seems to be performing flawlessly and with no MIL.
My version of the 808 also has TPMS capabilities which I haven't tried yet.

I have a BL5000-SLX manufactured in 2017 and purchased in 2018. I have used it without any issue on 997, 991, 992, 981, 987, Toyota Camry, Nissan Sentra and Toyota Tacoma (with the QJ lift blocks for trucks). Don’t know how much I have saved in labor costs since 2018 but I am certain the QJ has paid for itself several times over and continues to do so.

The 900 is $560, but its interesting that the 808 worked because on the diag tool thread, there was a mention that you needed the 900 for PCM6.

I simply use ESCO flat top jack stands and jack pads to get the car up in the air. Takes me 8-10 mins in total, using 2 jacks.

Here is a Porsche bulletin that lists all the approved C40 oils. I may go with a 5w40 for my first oil change, at somewhere around 1200-1500 miles on the motor, to get that “break-in oil” out.

I’m old school when it comes to oil changes, and am not a fan of long duration and mileage changes. I usually change the oil on my cars every 6 months or 4000-5000 miles. And plan to do the same with the GTS. Good point on warranty oil - should be easy to stick to 0w40 C40 oil, even though I’m not a Mobil 1 fan.
