Well that thread says you can park and stop the engine, with FAL in the lift position, but that you aren't supposed to do that, but the burden is on the driver to remember to manually lower the car, because there is no "auto lower" function in Park. So I am still confused by people saying you can't put the car in Park in the lifted position, unless that was changed in later model years.
I used to forget all the time when I got the car but now I automatically hit the button to lower as soon Im across whatever the obstacle is. It doesnt give you a warning to lower it but the light on the lift switch will be lit up when its raised.

I don't think anyone said you can't put the car in park with FAL lifted. If they did, they were mistaken.
Get the feature if you see the value and cost is ok. All other details will be irrelevant after a few day of ownership. I love it and not having to "go slow or sharp angle" etc. Especially every time I leave the driveway. It auto raises for me and while still backing out I just hit the button to lower once clear. Second nature worth every cent.
Agree with Castle. It's the only way I get out/in my driveway as I cannot do a "curb cut" where I live. I also cannot do ramps. I still Austin Powers it but I like to click things! LOL I also utilize it at my office as we have speed bumps which are more like plateaus that I still have to hit at an angle and come off at an angle so I don't scrape or high center. Yes, there's some dance moves in there.
More often than not, I leave it up just being forgetful but lately I've been lowering it before turning off the car.
So you find a 40mm lift is enough? That's only just over 1.5 inches - which is the other issue I have with this option, they really didn't provide much lift at all for $2700.
Even though its a small change in elevation it does help. I didnt think much of it when I ordered but happy I did. Its not so much the overall height boost but the approach angle increase it provides.
When it comes to the cost, I didnt honestly look as the car was more of a toy and not looking to make any money from it. Just bought it to enjoy. There are many options I have that arent good financially.
FAL is the only option I have any regret not getting. Will likely get it on the next one. Will definitely need to replace the front plastic piece as I've bottomed out at least 3-4x already.

I'll be getting FAL if/when I get a definitive allocation confirmation from my fantastic SA. I mean why not, the cost didn't factor into it for me. Do folks really buy Porsches to save money?

Oddly to me, many do seem to struggle at great lengths on deciding how to justify spending $2000 more here and there on a ~$160K car.

It is weird. Porsche is a luxury brand. No one needs it. For some, its just like houses - people focus more on the resale than doing what they like to live in a home they enjoy without constantly worrying about what youll gain at sale. Ive got a very nicely optioned GTS that has options that will never pay off. It is however my specific preference so it wont matter.

Depends on which lip you have, and whether or not its painted. The extended sport lip is more expensive than the regular one.
It would take three and a half replacements of the unpainted Sport Design lip to cover the cost of FAL. If you have to replace it once per year, and you plan on owning the car more than three years, FAL will pay for itself.

My time and inconvenience is worth far more than comparing how much less the rubber piece is than FAL. I wonder how many 992 owners have actually gone through the trouble of ordering and replacing the rubber piece - I suspect very small number vs. how many of us have FAL (or don't).
