Default Do you guys turn off FAL before turning off car?

Hi everyone,

I just learned that apparently FAL should be turned off before you turn off the engine. For a few practical reasons that I won't waste time explaining, this is sort of functionally inhibiting for me (it's not due to laziness of not wanting to click the button).

I usually just leave FAL on and turn off the engine.

I guess the question is- is it truly bad to leave FAL on overnight?

Do any of you guys do it despite the recommendation not to?

I always turn it off prior to turning off the motor. The owners guide advises this as well. It's not meant to be in the "on" position for extended periods of time. What damage that can cause, if any, is unknown to me.

My guess is it's not good to leave the system pressurized for an extended period of time. Maybe bad for the seal?? Not sure but I wouldn't.

Yeah I think it has to do with keep the hydraulics up being "bad".

It's just that if you read the manual for anything there are always restrictions and it's often more conservative than need be. Perhaps for this one it's good to follow, but I'm not sure...

Pretty sure porsche also says don't tune the car but it seems like plenty of people do it.

I'm just curious if everyone follows the FAL recommendation and for those who didn't, if anyone experienced any actual negative repercussions?

I always drop it. Best not to leave it pressurized. There is no upside to leaving it up after you're parked.

I used to forget all the time when I first got the car but now I always drop it as soon as I clear whatever obstacle I raised it for.

For something as simple as this whereas the negative consequences are not as known, just easiest to put it in the lowest position when turning off.

Man now that you have carved out the time to pay and pick up your car the real issues are starting.

I am dying to know why you want it up now?
I am picturing a clutch of kittens (are they called a clutch?) on a blanket at the back of you garage.
you ease the front splitter over their snuggle spot so you can clear the garage door on the wing AND not disturb their sleep.

Oh wait...just realized you have a C2S. No wing. Must be another reason.

Valet drivers make it a little tricky

I honestly almost always forget to lower FAL when I get it in the garage. (I use it for entry and exit) At 13,000 miles no problems have emerged so far though

It would have made sense for Porsche to just have it lower itself when the engine is tuned off. After all with the GPS it could raise itself as soon as you start up again.

Yeah agreed. I have no idea why it doesn't auto-lower itself upon engine stop. I don't even think it lowers itself while driving after GPS memory activates it. I always click the button to lower it back down but even times when I forget, I'd drive for half a mile and it's still up.

It definitely lowers itself when it hits the limit speed. The GPS was always a bit finicky for me so I turned off the location based activation.

What I dont get is why there isn't a warning that you have the car raised. They warn you if a window or sunroof is open. But that? No no no, we'll just give you an ambiguous warning in the manual that you must turn it off or else!
