Note that if you have a PIWIS or other system that can do active coding you can permanently disable the comfort access radio (i.e. the part that talks to the fob)
so the car will not communicate with the fob and do the location sensitive auto-unlock, touch unlock/lock system.

The fob will still work for manual button press lock/unlock/trunk functionality. The car also still communicates with the fob to start engine.

I disabled this because I got tired of the car unlocking whenever I would walk by it. It has the added advantage of making the fob harder to clone.

YMMV

Dave

I believe you can disable the proximity system all together on the car side through the PCM.

Knowing where the car is will not do much if the police will do nothing

Hopefully that PCM is a full time disable. This "convenience feature" that all the manufacturers have built into these cars is turning out to be a nightmare, both in terms of crime and insurance rates.

Going into the coding via PIWIS is permanent (I have tested this)...the way I read going in through the PCM is that it is not.

the manual is pretty lacking in details about these PCM settings (maybe on purpose).
If I had my car I'd go check it out for myself. ~50 something days to go according to TYD, and I'll update this thread with my findings if someone else hasn't already.

It would make sense to me though that disabling it with the PIWIS would prevent the PCM from enabling/disabling it (like an OEM software feature they might charge for).

Guys, sorry to be dense but I’m still not seeing an answer to my question, which is can the bad guys turn off the My Porsche tracking that shows the location of my car at all times under the Map section of the My Porsche. Thanks.

The tracking means nothing because that relies on the police, and car theft is considered a victimless crime. The whole idea here is to stop the car from being stolen in the first place.

I’m not sure what your point is. An AirTag certainly isn’t going to deter any thief. Short of having an MT, then a club or better yet like they’re doing in Toronto and installing a bollard is really the only way to deter a thief (or at least slow him down/make you a less attractive mark). Of course parking in a garage is best.

Re the My Porsche app tracking, do we think/assume that since it can’t be disabled and it’s in the app that Porsche has this information? Or maybe not, since that’s an awfully significant privacy intrusion and I’d think they’d have to have a more substantial disclosure/waiver re same. I note in this regard that the tracking works even though I have location services for the My Porsche app set to “While Using the App” only.

Thanks.

Could you share the section or steps in Piwis to do this please?

Just order the car in Racing Yellow with red interior so no one wants to steal it in the first place.

Can you disable the keyless/fobless door opening features on this car?

We still pursue them. Pursuits are fun…..but the danger to the public outweighs the reason for initiating the pursuit much of the time (…and people end up filing lawsuits against the city, county and/or state when a pursuit goes bad). It’s going to eventually get to the point where legislation will prevent us from chasing stolen cars. Until then, most departments still allow pursuits of stolen vehicles. About 90% of our pursuits involve stolen cars.
