Apparently, they are giving away free steering wheel locks:

The tag is a recorded tag - it's your tag. I don't believe you have to play the sound to track the tag location. The sound just helps you locate the item when you get very close to it, it isn't even loud enough to hear in the next room.

Regarding the AirTag, correct, if you don't disable the speaker (see YouTube) the bad guys will get a notification on their iphones that there is an AirTag nearby and can then make it make sound to find it (mind you, if you've buried it well enough they might not be able to hear it).

But I'm confused, the My Porsche app shows the location of my car at all times, can bad guys disable this, by signing me out of the account in the car or some other way?

Thanks.

Ps. Apple added this functionality because of stalkers.

.
I know my Taycan doesn’t show location of its put into private. I assume the 911 has the same feature, but I haven’t checked.

OK, I see it now, it's the thief's iphone that will trigger the foreign tag. Funny that I never heard mine go off when in the presence of a friend who has an iphone, or is there some affirmative control you have to click that says "show foreign tags"? Anyway, the interior is so loud on these cars, I wonder if its audible.

The thief will get an alert on their phone that there is an unknown air tag near by. They will stop the car and search for it using the phone which will trigger the air tag to beep.

This doesn’t happen when you are with your friend because your friend’s air tag is already near the phone it is registered to, so no need to notify you on your phone.

It’s hard as hell to find an AirTag, even if it’s 10 feet from you.

I keep one on my cat, and he periodically flings it off when he’s itching at his neck.

The sound is designed to help you within the last 10 feet.

This issue is sweeping the US and even Canada - I've read about the high rates of thefts in Toronto. And insurance rates are skyrocketing.
I can walk up to my car with the fob inside the closed box and my car will not unlock when I put my hand near the door handle. With the box open it will unlock.

Ok all true re AirTags but my question remains—can a thief disable the tracking function in the My Porsche app and, if so, how and how prevent (if possible). Thanks.

In the owners manual it states it cannot be disabled.
