Default 992 Lithium Ion Battery

I've traded in my 2020 992 C4S (which had a failed battery), and will be ordering a 2024 992 C4S this week. Is the Lithium Ion battery the same or has it been improved? I'm debating ordering RWS as I was concerned with battery issues but the dealer told me all 992 C4S come with the Lithium Ion battery regardless if RWS is ordered. Comments, please.

No issues so far in my '23 C2GTS and I've been driving it through the winter. It goes on a tender if its going to be sitting for more than 4 days.

Hi your dealer is incorrect, I have a 2024 C4S and it doesn't have a lithium battery.

cheers

Some recent deliveries of Ts with RAS have been arriving with AGM batteries too so there's no hard and fast rule as to which cars come with a lithium battery.

It's 2024, is fear of Li really still 'a thing'? As I understand some earlier cars had issues with battery management, leading to a failed / flat battery, but recent firmware updates seem to have have largely solve for that. My car has Li, and I wouldn't hesitate to order it again (came with the RAS option). No need to chew your arm off IMHO, just my $0.02. Good luck.

Where are you located? Region may play a part in this, as different batteries were (at least at one point) standard for different areas.

If in the US, you may want to verify what the dealer is telling you. All the recent posts here have confirmed that recent cars are shipping with AGM batteries, even if equipped with RAS. The hypothesis is that there were so many issues with the lithium batteries that he factory stopped installing them. Anecdotally, as a user who tries to pay attention to the battery threads, I don't recall anyone confirming anything BUT non-lithium batteries in their recently built US Carreras...

In Canada, they're standard for all 911s, including non RAS (rear axle steering is the Porsche term). in the US, that's not the case though.

Unless they add active thermal management LFP will never be suitable as a starting battery in an ICE vehicle that operates in climates that gets cold. LFP Cells will be damaged if they receive a charge when their temperature is below freezing. It is stated in every LiFePo4 datasheet you can find. If someone can prove me wrong I will happily STFU about what a bad idea it was to use this chemistry for this purpose.

I wonder if those taking 2024 deliveries with RAS, have checked their battery types? Going back to AGM would be a selling point for RAS.

They have. It has been discussed and proven with photos in another thread.

As far I understand it was never confirmed if it was a permanent change or just due to supply issues. I agree would be nice if they were all AGM, less headaches, cheap replacements. That being said I have not had any issues starting the car below freezing.

Just to preempt the typical "lead acid is just as bad" argument that has come up before, I offer this:
