I have spec'd out a March build 2024 Carrera S with PASM and the sport package and questioning the need for the FAL option. I had it on my GT3 Touring and found it occasionally helpful but the front bumper/valance on that car really sits way lower than I suspect the Carrera S does? Thank you for your thoughts.

I have a 23 C2 GTS with SPASM and don't need it... My SA told me it's very needed a GT3 (and not necessary on a GTS. even with SPASM)... and that it has weight and reliability issues.

So far, I totally agree... but I am careful.

Looks like you have an S 10mm higher ? so I would say no.

Had it on my .1 GT3 and used it occasionally

Had it on my .2 GT3 and never used/needed it

Did not get it on my GTS and glad I did not waste the money

I have a sloping upwards driveway into the garage. On my 996.2 GT3 and on my 993 C2S they actually touch underneath the car, not the front lip. On my 2021 C4S I noticed that a similar touch was occurring when 2 people were riding in the car. When I activated my FAL system, there was no touching at all. So, many consider FAL essential for the front lip clearance, but the geometries of raising the front axle also helps further down the chassis. With my FAL, it automatically raises as soon as I near the driveway with the GPS Geolocation feature so I don't have to remember to use it. IMHO FAL is essential for where I live.

Couple of good observations here…

1. Geometry definitely makes a difference (especially on your own property, where you spend higher % of time entering/exiting).

2. Presence of a passenger makes a big difference on whether or not you will scrape.

I use mine all the time. Do I need to? Don't know, but peace of mind is nice. 3 lip replacements cost more than FAL.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experiences. My driveway entrance is not a concern and I indeed am very attentive to when an angled approach is needed. Struggling too on the need for an extended fuel tank. Again, had it on the GT3 and you would think that that extra fuel load (if kept full) would impact the front lip height, and I don't mind an extra fuel stop here and there.

I like the large tank. Lift is nice to have but absolutely not required but I see it as a case by case thing. As mentioned some people have a true need. But if you are mindful, most cases you can angle the car and it'll be fine. I called my dealer to ask about the front lip on my 23 GTS. It's a $600 part (the black part). If it really bothers you one day, it's an easy replacement.

The extended range tank is a no brainer. Literally no downside and all the upside in the world.

As to FAL, it’s one of those options that’s better to have and not need than to need and not have. Plus, if a person is wondering if they should get FAL then chances are they will most likely need FAL down the road.

I have it and love it, use it all the time. Another friend doesn't have it, drives the same roads without issue, and can't see why it's necessary.

It is a total personal choice item, almost as much as color.

Exactly, my town re paved the ends off driveways on my street. As a result, I have a speed bump thing to get into my driveway. I have fal, if I didn't then the underneath part of my car would hit the crest of the bump.

My car is lowered and I do not have FAL and I do not regret skipping it at all. Unless you have the sport design painted front lip, your S will come with a matte black plastic lip that is replaceble for $300. I've scraped my front lip many times on driveways and the bottom is pretty beat up, but you can't tell at all that there's anything wrong with it and even if I messed it up, it's a $300 DIY replacement part.

But this is a personal question really. I have never had a car with FAL and every cool car I've owned has been lowered so I'm completely used to 35+ yrs of driving lowered cars and scraping front lips and not really caring. If you will freak out when your lip scrapes or you have a painted front lip, you may want to get the FAL.
