So, a friend of mine that has a 2022 992 C2S that he daily’s and has reached 12k miles. The car is PDK with Sport Package, Premium Package, Spider wheels, etc… His only complaint is that he misses his manual 997.
He was just offered a 2018 Carrera 4 GTS manual that has 7000 miles, 1 owner car.
His concern is going back a generation, pretty soon 2 generations, which obviously has less “comfort” tech, although the 4GTS is spec’d really well.
He would be gaining AWD, manual trans, and GTS trim level.
He would be losing 18-way seats, better tech, newer generation and current design.

Would you go back to 991.2 or stay with 992?
If he misses the 997 why doesn't he just get a 997?
I definitely miss the 996 4S and 996 Turbo after driving my 992. Visibility was better, you could actually see the spoiler deploy from the rear view mirror, the car was smaller and felt like it wrapped around you, and it was easier to drive at higher RPM without getting a felony.
But the 992 is more composed, less body roll, and has way more grip.
I’m already missing my 997 (GT3) that I sold a couple of months ago, ending a glorious 13-year experience as the original owner. I was hesitant to sell but offer I was given was too good to pass up. I still wake up some days thinking “It’s gone, what have I done?!” This could very well be the biggest mistake I’ve made.
992T arrives in April which I think will ease all the pain and regret…. I hope.
That’s what I get for reading the forums too much lately and getting aboard the Carrera T hype train. Joking aside, I really do think it was time and I made the right choice. 992 is a grown up 911 with CarPlay and all the modern creature comforts that make it the superior daily-driven 911. I personally wouldn’t go back to a 991 from a 992, though the manual transmission could be a compelling enough reason to do so. Why doesn’t your friend just hold off and keep searching for a manual 992 if it’s the stick shift they seem to be missing the most?
Had a 992 C2 coupe and now a 991.2S cab. Too early to tell but its not bc of the tech or comfort stuff. Its all about the drive, sounds and engine and so far haven’t noticed a downgrade at all. It def feels smaller which is a huge plus!
Sounds like he’s ready for a different experience. Doesn’t really matter which direction he goes as long as it’s the car he wants.
For some, they get enough time with various generations and they find their sweet spot. And for others swapping out keeps it exciting. There isn’t a wrong answer, there will always be another 911 to buy and try.
Depends on how you use your P car. Fun drive car or daily driver. Mine was never a daily driver so I wanted the most engaging drive experience. I had a 997, 981 and several 986’s. Never had a PDK car and never will, I’m now driving a modified 986 and it suits how I use a P car perfectly.
